Then why the hubbub over, for example, putting the Ten Commandments in state houses, etc...?

On his Daily Show segment this week, Reza Aslan was talking about religion being more about self-identity than dogma; our adoption of one interpretation (probably our father's) is how we tell ourselves and other who we are by genetics, moral values, economic associations etc. For thousands of years religion dominated communication, we went to church, religious schools and adopted national religions. Even mentioning that you had no religion was heresy. It could get you burned, ostracized, ruined financially and even in 2015 rendered unelectable for dogcatcher.

The increase in ubiquitous communication and information has got to be a factor in this type of polling. The freedom of anonymity also. I can say the things I say publicly and no one comes to burn my house down and run me out of town.

So now a comedy show is your proof? that's rich

Would you say that communication and information has increased over the past 100 years? Just talking about Christians here, but they have quadrupled in number over that time period and have increased their share of global population by 300 basis points.

Christianity is never ending slavery and if Black folks would learn to THINK they would know by holding on to the slave master's religion they are still slaves themselves... Same goes for the bean pie dudes.

But the drop in religion is probably because of the youth... It's harder to brainwash these kids in today's world with biblical fables.

I never made such a claim. You would have been better off saying I claimed that these religious practices of today are fake.

Were you hoping no one would read your article and take your cherry picked statistics as trustworthy?

"This apparent stability, however, masks a momentous shift. Although Europe and the Americas still are home to a majority of the world’s Christians (63%), that share is much lower than it was in 1910 (93%). And the proportion of Europeans and Americans who are Christian has dropped from 95% in 1910 to 76% in 2010 in Europe as a whole, and from 96% to 86% in the Americas as a whole."

3rd world countries are experiencing a rise in Christianity while Europe and the United States are stagnant if not dropping, which coincides with the claim that developed areas with easy access to the internet have been a factor in hindering growth of religion.

Not compelling logic from you. Latin America, Africa and Asia have experienced a magnificent increase in their access to information, as well.

Not to mention demographic shifts in the US and Europe.

What the...did you just imply that there is not a single person, who calls themselves Christian, and uses the Old Testament to be an *******?

realistically speaking, given that America has

    1) pro-choice codified in the law
    2) those "demographic shifts" you mention will continue to happen
    3) the country is now overwhelmingly for same-sex marriage
    4) teaching creationalism and intelligent design have been ruled unconstitutional
    5) a growing number of religious skeptics concentrated in youth that will replace elders

    etc.

how long do you think it'll take before America becomes "one nation, no kings, no gods, only man". One generation? Two?

They didn't strip away Black folks culture from them and give them a bible to save their souls dude.

Religion is still be forced on some people in Africa so using that continent is a bad example.

Need to see a few more courthouse weddings and less early winter shopping before I'd buy that one. Just like high school, ceremony, strategic conformity and sanctioned self-indulgence matter a lot more than being right on the test. People are whatever they want to be whenever and to whomever they choose.

I try this more often, it looks like fun. Cream-filled donuts, overseas travel, thick-soled shoes, phone-based games of any kind, all slavery.

Those were all culturally appropriated by whites.

    So, yes.

The old path still matters according to Jesus:
Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or tittle shall nowise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 5:18-19

The bible even says they're forever:
Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth. Concerning thy testimonies, I have known of old that thou hast founded them for ever. Psalm 119:151-2

Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever. Psalm 119:160

Has it been 1000 generations yet?
Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations. Deuteronomy 7:9
