I never said that Chicago was not big, just that it is hardly a city for business endorsements. My point was that Jordan never played in LA or NY and he had more endorsements than Kareem, Magic, or Ewing. If geographic location did not determine fame and endorsement back then, what makes anyone think that it will make any real difference in the world today where gossip and news spread like wildfire.
Then explain how the knicks a lottery team is doing better than the championship Lakers financially and yet alone the Rockets despite having international expsoure.
Whoops Knick are #2 behind lakers now. http://www.forbes.com/lists/2009/32/basketball-values-09_New-York-Knicks_328815.html Can you explain this?
Yea... NY has real fans, not the bandwagon corporate bean counting paper pushers that we have a crap load of in Houston. Also, with Yao Ming and T-Mac constantly out, everyone save us hardcore fans have counted out Houston.
The million dollar question... x 50 or 100. I think the way the public will perceive it, Lebron going to the Knicks would be like Arod going to the Yankees. He will be welcomed warmly. Until he starts choking then he will be berated like none other. Then if he wins a championship, it will be alllll goood.
Their benchwagon fan size increase, which helps the team a lot short term but doesn't really help LBJ any as they are already his fans. LBJ is already a global household name and businesses will come to get him no matter where he is.
Your forgeting that during the 70s and 80s when Magic and Kareem played, endorsement deals weren't as big as today and money was not a motivation for NBA players back then. NBA players back then wanted to put effort into the game and they really did not care about money. It was during the 90s when all these endorsements deals started popping out and of course Jordan was there to take advantage of it. Yes it was Jordan that basically started it this era. Currently Nike said if Lebron comes to NY, he'll get a raise from them. Now think about all the other sponsors/company will do if he goes to NY.
Not to much. You don't seem to understand this fact. With all the new technology and methods of communications, LBJ doesn't need NY for a huge amount of endorsements, no matter how much you want him to join your trashy team. If he goes there, what is waiting for him there? A coach that plays no D, a couple of long term cancers, an offense only Italian player which they are shopping, and a solid PF that they are shopping. Sure they can afford two max contracts, but who wants to go to a team that is starting over and the only remaining players after gutting the team are a bunch of scrubs?
I never said ny was my team and I could care less where he goes. Since your so smart, explain why is there a big hype if he decides to go to ny? Can you explain why Shaq left Orlando, which was a contending title team for a lottery team like the Lakers during that time?
I thought that was why the dinosaurs died?!? (family guy reference) Anyways, there is big hype for him to go to NY because of the following reasons: - He is a Yankees fan - He is a Giants fan - Jay-Z is in NY - BSPN is always adding fuel to fire What they and fans harping for LBJ to come do not understand is, Knicks will still be on a long road to recovery after gutting their entire team for LBJ and whoever else they sign for max and still cannot surround LBJ with winning talent due to the enormous space gone from the ever decreasing salary cap and bad economy and will have to hope to get talent around LBJ with draft picks.
If I'm Lebron, I'm keeping my mouth shut until we see what pick the New Jersey Nets end up with. They're clearly tanking in a bid to claim John Wall as their own. Devin Harris can then move over to what I believe is his more natural position, shooting guard making for one hell of a backcourt. Then you add LBJ to that mix and an up and coming center in Brook Lopez and you've got the making of a Dynasty. Of course that looks wonderful on paper, but we all know what happened to our Ming/McGrady "dynasty".
