Exactly what points made in the video that you had a disagreement with? I guess the women on the view are incompetent in your eyes? What matters is not the source but the logic in the conversation. Yes even if it's fox. I guess discrediting the source is the easiest way for you to attempt to make your case. You’re trying to make your point, by separating Obama from the Bill and inserting your person of choice . It is, was, and always has been Obamas bill to begin with...Racist intent or not, it was very tacky! Even if you substitute the person of your choice as the monkey, the Monkey was shot...is that ok with you also?
IMO I think the guy is crying foul, but having a big laugh about it.I had no problem with Imus, but I find this to be offensive... at least to me.
That is largely correct. I like Whoopi though. Not discrediting anyone for the sake of needing them out of the discussion, I'm discrediting their take on this particular issue and many, many, MANY others. We've already established that this comes down to opinion, I don't agree with their position. That's it. I also discredit ANY news source that takes elements of truth and stitches them together in such a way as to support their own agenda. MSNBC has been consistent in this regard for a number of years. A quick check of their ratings tells you that even the ignorant folk aren't using them. Nope, I'm trying to remove Obama (for that matter, any other specific individual) from the cartoon. I understand it is his bill, but I also know he didn't write 1200 pages himself. If you think he did, well, I don't know what to say. Nope. If you have been reading my words, certainly you would have picked up where I said the thing was not in my personal taste. Why would you need to ask this again? I never once stated the cartoon was in good taste. For one thing, that's irrelevant, for another, well, it wasn't.
See, now you're just being intentionally stupid (I hope). If it's about Pelosi, that changes the ethnic group who should be offended by it. Is Sharpton going to march for her?
i was just pointing out that you could be wrong about it not being about a specific person. since when has monkey been used as a derogatory term towards women?
I asked if Sharpton was going to march for Pelosi. Other people in here have said the cartoon was racial. If it's racial and about Pelosi, guess what? It's targeting caucasians. Pelosi is white. After I said this, you come back and ask about monkeys being a derogatory term about WOMEN. As women are NOT a race that I'm aware of, I asked when they became one. Your question didn't fit the flow of the discussion. You should have realized I was asking if Sharpton was going to march for the rights of white people (if in fact this was about Pelosi). To clarify, it's not about Pelosi. It's not about Obama. It isn't racial. Let's put this to bed and find something else to be offended over. The thought police are getting nervous with the amount of thought we're putting into this one.
ok, so when has a monkey been used as a racial slur against whites? i didn't think you'd be stupid enough to think that al sharpton would march for white people. not sure you know this or not, but typically sharpton hasn't marched for white people. in fact, white people haven't needed someone to march for their rights since we've been in power since, you know, the birth of this country. who is the current defender of white's rights? regardless of all that, if sharpton marches for the rights of one race, he must do it for all? EDIT: i'm not sure how this turned into a sharpton specific argument. i don't understand people who don't understand that not everyone thinks the same way as them. people who think this cartoon is racist may be incorrect, but that doesn't mean one can't understand why they would come to that conclusion given the fuzziness of the cartoon itself along with the historical racist connotation of monkeys.
You're impossible. Nowhere in my post did I mention President Obama. Like all opponents, he's the only thing you have on the brain. I asked you about the historical use of "monkey" as a racist term in the United States. You chose to read "Obama Obama, Obama. Obama Obama. Obama; Obama? Obama."
It depends on how diverse the editorial staff at the NY Post is. I have no idea. One good thing about diversity is that you have people with different perspectives getting input.
That isn't my point. Frankly I'm running out of energy on this one. I was more concerned about the accusations the paper was going out of its way to purposely offend an ethnic group. I'm still waiting for that poster to man up and finish our discussion (it has been conveniently dropped).
Dang it, I hate when I misfire a quote tag. Why the hell can't we edit our posts? Sorry for that above, but I have a statement sandwiched in that one quote box of yours...sigh. Wanted to buy : ability to search board, ability to edit posts
