You guys are all drinking Kool-Aid. This CLEARLY references the pet chimpanzee attack in Connecticut. Look at the real photos and compare. http://www.foxnews.com/photoessay/0,4644,6594,00.html#5_0 Sheesh, I can't believe how sensitive folks are these days. If it makes you all feel better, put on a dress before viewing the news photo link above. Racism? Honest to God, I can't believe this kind of reaction to THIS picture/cartoon/news event. The artist combined current events. Too bad he missed the fact his audience were a bunch of monkeys themselves.
I better go ahead and include a hint for you special types... take note of the "beware of dog" sign that's in both the cartoon and the news photos of the attack location... please resume your kool-aid picnic.
But what does it have to do with the stimulus package? i thought of it as referencing Obama and connecting it to the shot chimp. It's both.
Incorrect. I believe it speaks to the random monkeys on typewriters. In no way is it a shot at Obama, our first black president (who is half white).
when have I said anything you just accused me of saying. My new opinion is you are not offended but just crazy. cause if you think I did all that to you, then you are in a fantasy world. Good luck with all that!
The only thing about that is when I click on the news, I hear about "Obama's" stimulus plan. I'm trying to get their contact numbers to let them know its a group of monkeys. I'll get back to you on how that turns out.
Damn, you've barely been on this BBS and you're one of the most antagonistic people here. Barack Hussein Obama is blacker than any president we've had.
While that's very true, I brought up the fact he was half white to thwart the skirt-wearing bleeding hearts "obvious" connection between monkeys and racism. The statement that Obama is as white as he is black would sort of make that stupid point of view, well, stupid. If you need to work to find something to be racist, it isn't racist. You have an alternate agenda. Period. I for one read this cartoon as a connection between a few things... 1) The chimpanzee incident in CT. 2) The fact we finally have a stimulus package (many people consider it has taken a while and should have been more urgent to the former administration). 3) The fact the stimulus package is a huge steaming pile of mess that appears prepared by the famous "infinite number of monkeys on typewriters". I think the cartoon is fine. It is current. It is accurate. While it's not my personal taste, I see it as very relevant. If the kids could focus on the issues above and get off the Kool-aid, it would serve us all well. This is not even close to being racist.
let it go, folks <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/i-6L_hT3QtQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/i-6L_hT3QtQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
this makes me think you're from the northeast but apparently you're not I'm from Texas and this is the first time I heard about this chimpanzee news then you say this seriously, you don't think of Obama when you hear stimulus package?
I think this was inexcusably poor judgment on behalf of the newspaper. It is easily foreseeable that people would draw a racist intent. On top of all that...the cartoon (even with no racist overtones) just isn't funny.
That's a funny cartoon. If people looked at some of the specifics of the stimulus bill, they might be able to look past the insinuation that the cartoon had anything to do with race and everything to do with moronic and pork lined government spending.
Sorry, I watch the news from time to time and sometimes turn on my tv. Nope. I think of the group of monkeys that is our congress, you know - the authors of said package. Obama, other than being a cheerleader, has/had very little to do with any of this (at this point). Perhaps if more people were aware of this, they wouldn't jump to label the cartoon monkey as our president.
Yes, uninformed people. If I had no idea of the current events in my country, I might not understand this either. Are all cartoons intended to be funny? Perhaps you have cartoon and comic mixed up. This isn't Garfield.
My thoughts exactly. The post knew very well, what it would mean to african americans, but they went ahead with it anyways, because there's just enough plausibility to claim its about something else. You have to wonder why anyone would go that far to purposely attempt to offend an ethnic group.
So then, is it you or the artist comparing African Americans to apes? I don't see anything resembling an African American in the picture.
Play dumb if you want. Its obvious to anyone with an open mind what the cartoonist was trying to do. You have to wonder about the psyche of people that go to such lengths to offend and be obtuse at the same time. Some kind of bully/inferiority complex?
Sure, I'll play dumb. Why don't you connect the dots for me? Tell me what the artist was trying to do. Get in his head, explain the truth about this picture. I mean, honestly, I've seen at least 3 different interpretations of it in this thread alone but you seem to have the inside track as to its true meaning. Explain it for me.
