Man I was wondering the same thing! I just didn't want to be the first one to admit noticing it.

    You forgot Oak.

When exactly is JVG going to realize he can't win without STARKS!

    Did I just say that?

Look how happy Mutombo is about potentially coming to Houston.

If you are talking about my post I said we are trying to win in a small window of oppurtunity first, key word first. Two layers of meanings, the current set of players have a small window of oppurtunity to win in three years max IMO because of the age factor. Also, the sacrificing youth and athleticism for experience experiment, which I'm not against for the record, might fail in a short time that the team will try a different approach, like getting some young talent and try to have another window of opportunity with a modified roster. Nobody knows what talent we would get so that one is up in the air. We can change the team later on but the current team's window of opportunity is definitely not a long one if they are good enough to contend for the title. JJ, Howard, Ward, Sura and possibly Mutombo are all old or getting old.

What on earth are you talking about? How are the Rockets getting old!? There is only one "old" guy on the team, Jimmy Jackson, and I'd take him over many of the young guys in the league. Ward? I doubt that Mutombo would ask for an extension. The Rockets are in the driver's seat so if he asks for an extension in exchange for a trade the Rockets don't have to do the deal. I don't understand why there are some people who are resistant to getting Mutumbo. The guy is ideal in the a BACK-UP role. A veteran who is still productive. All we need is someone to eat up minutes and Mutombo can do more then that so why complain? No matter how old you get, shot-blocking and rebounding are still possible.

He will never lose his accent. But he speaks seven languages.
Come on. Give him a break.

That's why Mutombo is a dinosaur. Old but intimidating. Why do you think a dino is no goodie? How many times do I need to repeat that I'm not against getting old but effective players? I was defending the old legs of JJ and Ward in another thread after your post and stated my stance in this thread a short while back. BTW, the Rockets key players are indeed old or getting old, no matter you like it or not.

The Rockets key players are TMac and Yao. One is 23 and the other is 25. While they will continue to get older each year, they are not old. Ward, Jackson, Mutumbo and the like are simply role players that can be easily replaced if needed.

Mutumbo is an awsome signing. He brings back Cato's attitude and defense. Sure he is an old guy, but Mutumbo should be good 8 to 14 minutes a game. That is solid defense when Yao goes to the bench for a rest. That means that teams won't have a layup drill when he is off the floor. Because if you haven't noticed, there is not another shot blocker on the roster right now beyond Yao.

And Mutumbo at his age is arguably a better shot blocker and rebounder than Yao.

It'll be cool if JVG play both Yao and Mutombo at the same time. That's ONE HUGE MONSTER with 2 heads in the middle right there.

Someday, maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, maybe maybe no, we will find that elusive player that is getting younger. Sure, we may have to hire some weird scientist to develop a time machine, but it will be worth it for the sole reason of watching a player like Mutombo block shots in reverse time.
