That was my argument? I think it was more of a rant on someone's comment about letting people eat whatever they want.

We aren't banning a person's choice. Can you taste the difference between a non-trans fat oil vs. a trans fat oil?

You brought up salt, there is a huge difference in taste between salt and no salt. At least with this change nobody will taste the difference.

me too, but just because something is legal does not make it right. transfats are simply not necessary for you to keep on enjoying your life. you are making ridiculous leaps here. ban salt? sure that's the same thing.

Guess they'll be banning regular peanut butter from restaurants as well; some whip creams are hydrogenated as well.

So buy an individual health care plan! Jeez, there are options if you want to pay for healthcare based on your health, alone.

If you guys are for restaurants being able to sell mar1juana and coke, than you have a point.

Not everything. Not ingesting mercury. Not ingesting radium. And not ingesting transfats. The studies pretty much show a little isn't good, moderate amounts are bad, and any more is very bad. Eating strait butter or lard is MUCH better for you. THC is a heck of lot less toxic as well.

Personally I think the ban sounds extreme. But there is no redeeming quality to this stuff (other countries have eliminated and the food taste the same) and if this is the only way to get the food industry to change, so be it. Unfortunately our special interest government system gets in the way of often very pragmatic and simple things like moving to replace trans fats with non-hydrogenated oils because the pro-health lobby is so minimal in dollars relative to the monies to continue the industry status quo whether it is health or not.

I personally think except in the most extreme cases adult people should be able to do what they want in their own home. But I think the government has every right to tax the hell out of stuff that is bad for you because our government picks up a ton of the health care costs, besides, the stuff kills people. So don't prohibit people from eating trans fats (via prepared themselves or in a restaurant--so long as the customer knows), don't prohibit people from smoking tobacco (so long as others are not exposed to their smoke), don't prohibit getting high either, but tax them relative to what these behaviors cost society/government in health care costs, maybe even a tad higher than that so we error on the side of saving lives instead of under-estimating health care costs (it is not so easy to get accurate predictions of such things because the effects are long term and multi-causal).

Actually, no. It's the Dr's and hospitals that charge higher rates. Insurance companies simply pass on the cost from hospitals. Everybody pays because of generally higher obesity rates. Everybody.

I'm chaning my stance. Force companies to label their products in big fonts that says CONTAINS TRANS FATS. Then do a general public awareness advertising compaign.

The biggest problem with Trans Fats is:

    1. People aren't aware of how bad this stuff is (or you wouldn't eat it).
    2. If you EVER eat fast food (and we all do), you really don't have any choice.

Lard and butter are tastier substitutes.

    Healthier too.

You can have your transfats as long as its real costs to the government/people are paid by its consumers.

I think it's funny how nobody is raising a fuss over the soft drinks they push on you. They're like 80g of sugar a pop...

If you want water instead of soda they charge you extra. That's shameful.
