How can any reasonable person be for this?
Let the consumer decides what he wants and does not want.

That's good stuff right there, Rule0001. If I want to eat my greasy hamburger, let me eat it! :) Thanks.

Not true. Trans fat is natural, we just make it in large amounts.

Reasonable? Do you get to go to a restraunt or a fast food place and demand what oils they cook with? People, please at least know something about the issue before making a post about it.

Trans fat is not natural. We have to build machines to hydrogenate normal fat, and that is what turns it into trans fat.

Trans fats occur naturally in small quantities in meat and dairy products from ruminants. Most trans fats consumed today, however, are industrially created through partial hydrogenation of plant oils and animal fats — a chemical process developed in the early 1900s and first commercialized as Crisco in 1909.

People, please at least know something about the issue before making a post about it.

Okay, we can play this game if you want.

Yes, there is a small amount of naturally occurring trans fat in some items. This has nothing to do with the proposed ban. The ban is for hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils created by man. They are in no way looking to ban meat or dairy products.

this is exactly the problem. people DON"T know about it, they are being poisoned without their knowledge. i do plenty of things that are bad for me and it's my choice. you are right, it is about choice- whether to force the use of the lesser of two evils or allow giant corporations to yield even greater profits by cutting corners.

Yet what? Damn, you guys act like banning trans fat is a sign 1984 is coming true. If you want to call the government evil and corrupt go ahead, but at least do it for one of the hundreds of things they are doing wrong. This is probably one of the best actions a city government has considered doing in a long time.

The FDA should have banned trans fats a long time ago, but until the FDA is actually willing to act I'm proud to see a local government show some concern for their citizens health.

As much as I'd love to comment on this, the two issues are unrelated, and I am even more passionate about that issue. Let's keep the focus on trans fat.

A far more rational way to handle this would be to go the route of the MSG signs that were placed outside chinese restaurants. That way, even the ignorant morons of the world would have a warning.

While New York is humongous, banning trans fats would be the equivalent of banning fast food restaurants in the city for years to come. While I'm sure that they would be able to change their formulas and ingredients, it would take a while. It's not like fast food is made on the premises. It's all pre made.

It doesn't feel unrelated when the want to ban smoking in your on house. Then they will ban certain foods in your own house for your "safety". Deep down we all know this is what coming, at least admit it.

    Finished with my woman
'Cause she couldn't help me with my mind
    People think I'm insane
Because I am frowning all the time

All day long I think of things
    But nothing seems to satisfy
    Think I'll lose my mind
If I don't find something to pacify

Can you help me occupy my brain?
    Oh yeah!

I need someone to show me
The things in life that I can't find
I can't see the things that make true happiness
    I must be blind

Make a joke and I will sigh
And you will laugh and I will cry
    Happiness I cannot feel
And love to me is so unreal

And so as you hear these words
Telling you now of my state
I tell you to enjoy life
I wish I could but it's too late

All the fast food places have to do is change the oil, problem solved! They are getting their warning now. They have known for years they'd eventually have to switch oils anyway, and a small few have taken the very simple step.

McDonald's could decrease a ton of the trans fat by changing the oil they fry stuff in. How hard is it to change what you use to fry stuff in 3-6 months time?

    "California Uber Alles"

    I am Governor Jerry Brown
    My aura smiles
    And never frowns
    Soon I will be president...

Carter Power will soon go away
I will be Fuhrer one day
I will command all of you
Your kids will meditate in school
Your kids will meditate in school!

    [Chorus:]
    California Uber Alles
    California Uber Alles
    Uber Alles California
    Uber Alles California

    Zen fascists will control you
    100% natural
You will jog for the master race
And always wear the happy face

Close your eyes, can't happen here
Big Bro' on white horse is near
The hippies won't come back you say
Mellow out or you will pay
Mellow out or you will pay!

    [Chorus]

    Now it is 1984
    Knock-knock at your front door
    It's the suede/denim secret police
They have come for your uncool niece

    Come quietly to the camp
You'd look nice as a drawstring lamp
    Don't you worry, it's only a shower
For your clothes here's a pretty flower.

    DIE on organic poison gas
    Serpent's egg's already hatched
You will croak, you little clown
When you mess with President Brown
When you mess with President Brown

    [Chorus]

Probably harder than it is to simply not eat it if you don't want it.

Yeah, I choose not to eat at any fast food place because of this. It would be nice to actually go somewhere, not have to ask what oils they use to cook with and eat there without worrying about it.
