He'll get Johnson'ed out of it if the Astros don't start winning some of his starts for him. Like that sick campaign Ryan threw in the '80s with a sub-2.00 ERA and a ton of strikeouts, but lost more games than he won. Sick.

very true. but finishing 2nd ain't half bad. and judging by what Randy commanded on the market, I'd be fine with that kind of return. I just don't see the Yanks giving that up..or having it to give up.

Hi performance this season is all that matters in my opinion. It's much like a Carlos Beltran last season ... the team that acquired him knew they were doing so for a one-year rental, and paid accordingly. Unlike the NBA, the team that gets the player doesn't have any special negotiating ability to keep him (as far as I understand) for next season, so a half-year of Clemens should net you something .... assuming he continues to pitch like this.

Forget the Yankees, they've got nothing in the farm system. How much do you think the Red Sox would love to stick it to NY by beating them to Clemens? Even without that, the Return of Roger would be a huge deal for them, given their history. And they could use starting pitching too. One interesting note in that scenario is if they don't pursue Clemens, it might be because Miller is putting up good numbers so far for them.

    Todd Hollandsworth? Why on earth?

Despite the nice start, I see no reason to sign a 39 year old Reggie Sanders this offseason.

Honestly, this free agent list is fairly uninspiring. No Vlad or Belran types.

Good question...I have no idea. :)

I had no idea he was that old. Pass.

Yeah, that's true. With the money we should have, Konerko, Winn and Burnett would be great additions, however.

I don't really want Winn now- I wanted him in the pre-Willy era, but I'd like to see this team get some run producers. Same for Johnny Damon, imo.

I still wonder why it took Konerko so long to finally bust out- he was an uber prospect with the Dodgers, sort of flopped around for a little with a couple good seasons till he busted out with 41 HR last year. He's off to a good power start (11 HR) but only hitting .227. He'll certainly be worth a look depending on what Bagwell does.

I've always liked AJ Burnett, he'll be 28 next year. His problem is injuries. I wouldn't mind throwing him Roy, Backe, and Pettitte next year.

I also want to know what impact the personal services contract Roger has with us has on this all?

Could he keep a personal services agreement with us, while being on another team. Not sure if it would be seen as conflict of interest etc etc.

"Integrity and honesty — those are some of the main reasons I wouldn't (trade Clemens)," McLane said. "People are very excited about Roger. He has won seven Cy Youngs. He's a Houston person, a Texan.

"I would be going against their desires to see him, the people who bought tickets. I'm committed to winning. I'm a very loyal person. (A trade) is not something I'd consider."

That was taken from thread earlier this summer.

I take that as Drayton admitting it would not be right to the fans to trade Roger. So if he trades him for scraps from the Yankees i certainly will not be happy. It seems to me that Drayton is saying that the fans of Houston want to see Roger and bought tickets for that reason.. and it would be unloyal to the fans to trade him.
