the rockets havent been out of the 1st round in over 10 years... i guess tmac was holding us back b4 arriving in houston
Who needs to get real here? Yao's defensive impact is bigger than anybody on Rockets team this year by a large margin even though defense is not his strongest point. Without Yao this year, Rockets simply would give opponent team a lay-up drill almost every game. With Yao on the court, opponents EFG is 46%, without him, 51%. Plus per 48 minutes, opponents attempted 23 FTs when Yao is on the bench vs. 18 FTs when Yao is playing. Those are all huge difference. You better blame Alston and Brooks for get under the screen consistently, blame Tmac for standing around on defense, blame Landry and Scola for missing rotations before you blame Yao giving up lay-ups.
Having more blocks means not soft? That shows your lack of basketball knowledge right here. Bol is one of the most soft player in NBA history, and he's one of the best shot blocker ever.Camby is much soft than Yao, yet he blocks a ton. And what to you mean Eaton used every bit of it to his advantage? By averaging 7.5 rebounds per game? Or did he ever command double team? You simply has a bias against Yao, not being objective at all.
this board is a bit scary right now. people come from all crazy angles. and i see a lot different perspectives. how's a thread initially about a ny post article on mcgrady gradually become a yao discussion? and i swear this is not the first time. tells something.
believe, or not believe? soft, or not soft? it's all in our minds, isn't it? it is a choice. but at least we should not pretend and claim we actually KNOW more or better than the other side at this moment.
The Knicks are interested and are very keen on finding a taker for Marbury. That's why I'd take this news with a grain of salt. However news coming from "friends" can also mean it's an anonymous presser from the player's agency. These "friends" happen to have a direct line to inform the media and then clout to get their news out?
I don't believe it and it's hard to believe either. Anonymous friend means nuff',maybe THEY wanna dump Malbury into the ocean of Houston? I would rather take that Yao-Mac have a good relationship with each other call than this fabricated, anonymous friend unleashed news.
Lay up drill.... What do you think other teams are doing now... Now take for granted that defense is a team again... But come on sir, Yao gives no weak side help at all.. Now don't even let me start on the pick and role... Yao leaves the guards in a very vulnerable spot. When his man sets the pick, Yao steps back instead of up. So a point guard like Parker, CP3 or Williams is going to hit 50. I believe someone has already stated that Yao will not come out to defend the shot.. So come up with some other statement THAT'S NOT ABOUT YAO'S DEFENSE!!!
Yao's length is crucial to the Rocket's defense, and he does give help on weakside...sometimes he is late, but most of the time he does a great job of stepping up on defense and forcing players to shoot over him. Anyone who says otherwise has not been paying attention. DD
Read the entire thread next time.... YES YAO IS SOFT.... When Bol at 7'6 and 185 pounds can defend than Yao.. There's a prob.. Bol was basically an NBA gimmick... Camby is not soft... Not at all... Camby may stay injured a lot.. But he's not soft... Camby will SLAM ON YOU WITH AUTHORITY!!!! He will take it to the basket with AUTHORITY.... I'm not going to even get into with you about Eaton, you are looking at Stats.. Did you ever see the man play... He had no OFFENSE.. But was very dominant on the defensive end. Now I am not being biased against Yao, as I have stated before Yao is what he is.. Yao is a good player... NOT A GREAT Player... Not being biased, being real.
I don't think T-Mac would backstab Yao as he has complemented him several times on what a good Center he is. I think T-Mac knows that if he were to do something like that it would destroy their friendship and also destroy team chemistry. I think the issue is that the team is losing alot of games recently and that the coach needs to sit his players down and revamp the offense. T-Macs not shooting well, so while he is resting he should work on his jumpers and work on playing better defense. I hope Yao does not believe this story as it will only lead to in fighting and later on Morey will have to consider splitting the team up.
Parker, CP3 hitting shots are Yao's faulst now? What's next? Yao's the reason for US economy crisis as well? Those guys are all stars for a reason. You are blind to blame Yao because of your bias toward him. don't deny it, because your posts show that. Yao does help on pick&roll, he used to do that on amost every play under JVG, chasing guards around 3 point line. and opponents liked to run those plays because that would tire him out at the end of the game. And there was no time for him to recover if opponents drive to basket. RA chaged that, so Yao could protect rim more. Yet, he still helps a lot if you really watched games, there were still so many shots he altered, even though some of them ended up in opponents hands because his man was not covered after Yao went for help. It was you who brought up Yao's name in this thread. Yao's defense is very underrated by guys like you who is biased towards him. I don't really care about stats that much, but stats is one way to proof his defensive impact. What do you have? Just some baseless statement at this moment.
What a joke. please don't shift the topic. Tell me in straight face is Bol soft? The guy was a shot block specialist, and nothing else. He was so weak to guard strong player who has a post game. And he ususally shot 3s with his 7'7 frame, never played in post on offense. Oh, Camby is not SOFT, Yao is SOFT, that's the reason Yao absolutely kills him everytime they meet right? So if Camby is not soft but Yao is soft, tell me why a "soft" player always kills a "tough" player? What is it so good for not being "soft"? It seems dunking with authority is your definition of not soft, it doesn't matter who wrestles with 2 or 3 guys under the basket vs. who avoids contact. If that's the case, then Stromile is 10 times tougher than Chuck Hayes, Tmac is 10 times tougher than Ron Artest. That again show you don't know basketball at all. don't tell me eaton is a good pick n' roll defender. Eaton is a just block specialist as well. He is slower than Yao with longer arms, but the rule at aht time allowed him to stay under the basket all day long. If he plays right now, he'd be fouled out in 5 minutes defending that way. From your post, I can clkeary see your bias towards Yao. You compare Bol' and Eaton's block with Yao to make a conclusion that Yao is softer, that's just like compare Rodman's rebouding with Hakeem's and saying Hakeem is worthless on boards. Get real.
well written. other than a few quickie typo's (i have more sometimes), i consider this as bball 101 to some cf's.
Well written response to this, Choujie. I'm pretty sure it's league-wise consensus that Camby is soft. Wait, actually Camby doesn't even get to be categorized as soft, since the only thing he can do well is block shorts from the weak-side. He gets killed playing one on one defense against any of the elite big men in the league. And don't get me started on his offensive repertoire, which consists entirely of a 20 ft jumper.
