    Knicks cut ties with Anderson
    Thursday, November 11, 2004
    BY COLIN STEPHENSON
    Star-Ledger Staff
GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- Shandon Anderson's days with the Knicks are finally over. The unwanted swingman was liberated yesterday when the team bought out the remainder of his contract, then waived him.

The move opens a roster spot for the team to sign former Bulls swingman Eddie Robinson. General manager Isiah Thomas admitted interest in Robinson last week.

Anderson, who has been in Thomas' doghouse since missing an exit meeting at the end of last season, played sparingly in the preseason and appeared in only one of the Knicks' first three games -- a 20-minute stint in Saturday's blowout loss to the Boston Celtics.

It is not known whether Anderson was at practice yesterday. Coach Lenny Wilkens cut the workout short after some weight training and a video session, and most players were gone before the media arrived at the Knicks' training facility.

Through a team spokesman, Thomas declined to comment on the move, and Anderson's agent, Dan Fegan, did not return several phone calls.

Though Thomas had said in training camp that a buyout of the remaining three years (at $24 million) on Anderson's contract was not likely, apparently that changed.

Anderson initially was adamant he would not take less than 100 percent of the $24 million owed him. He said before the regular season he would not agree to go on the injured list, forcing the Knicks to carry him on the 12-man active roster. He then said he would be amenable to a buyout.

Among the places Anderson could land are with the Nets, Houston, Miami, Utah, Detroit and Toronto. If he goes to Houston, with ex-Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy, he could be in uniform when the Knicks visit next Thursday.

Seems like Anderson is coming to Houston!!!!!

GREENBURGH, N.Y. -- It took a big chunk of Cablevision change, but Knicks president Isiah Thomas finally jettisoned Shandon Anderson yesterday by buying out the remaining three years of his contract for something in the vicinity of $17 million to $20 million. Considering Anderson's contract was worth $24 million, it was a bargain that pleased both sides.

Anderson was a victim of regime change when Thomas replaced Scott Layden last season and brought in coach Lenny Wilkens, who put an end to Anderson's NBA-best streak of 543 consecutive games played by benching him in his hometown of Atlanta last Jan. 23. Anderson skipped his exit meeting with Thomas and Wilkens at the end of last season and was exiled to the end of the bench this season after refusing to accept assignment to the injured list.

"We reached an amicable separation that was mutually beneficial," Dan Fegan, Anderson's Beverly Hills-based agent, said last night. "Actually, Shandon had a conversation with Isiah and got it done. It's time to move on. Both parties recognized this wasn't the best fit."

Anderson already has attracted interest from several teams, including Miami, Houston, Chicago, Denver and Golden State. Most likely, he will sign a two-year deal for the $1-million veteran minimum, which would allow him to make up a portion of what he gave up.

Isiah did just cut him a check for $19M. I wouldn't be too pissed, but then again, I'm not a professional athlete. :)

Not just no but HELL NO! Been there and done that. I'd rather take my chances with Nachbar who at this stage of the game has a bigger upside if he can pull it all together.

He's better than Boki. I say we sign him if we can get him cheap.

I havent seen him play since he was a Rocket, but if he still knows how to play decent D...I wouldnt mind paying him the minimum....hell...maybe he can regain a little of the slashing ability he had in Utah...but I aint holding my breath

btw...the only thing Shndn has over Boki is that he plays a little better D....their shooting ability is about the same...actually...so far this season Boki seems to be shooting ok...but he can do better...can you say the same of Shndn?

Shandon Anderson would be a great asset...especially to help us while T-Mac recovers. I'd like to see a lineup with Nachbar, S. Anderson, and JJ covering the wing.

    Layups

Ben Gordon looks to be the odd man out in coach Scott Skiles' first starting lineup change in four games. Nothing is official, but veteran guards Adrian Griffin and Eric Piatkowski worked in the backcourt with Kirk Hinrich at Friday's practice. ... The Bulls and Miami are the two most likely candidates to sign veteran forward Shandon Anderson to a $1 million contract. If Anderson is signed, the Bulls would have to waive a player. ... In his diary on NBA.com former Bull Jay Williams said he dunked for the first time this week. But he also said he may need another foot surgery.

PLEASE don't sign Anderson. The Rockets have needs, but Anderson doesn't fill any of them. Why waste $2 on him? We already have McGrady, Jackson, Nachbar, and Bowen. I think that every single one of those guys are as good or better than Anderson and fill the exact same role.

We need a point guard, but we won't even know that for sure until Sura is in the lineup and can be evaluated. Anderson couldn't help us there anyway.

We need rebounding and shot blocking. Anderson definitely won't help us there either.

If JVG wants Anderson, I would seriously question his judgement.

instead of signing him, we better first look for Keon Clark & evaluate him if he could be back to play. we badly need athleticism in the frontcourt...

Anderson can probably make a few shots but he is inconsistent and his defense isn't as good as it used to be. I would pass up on him.
Da Wink, I was wondering about Keon Clark as well. He just seems to have disappeared. I doubt if he is mentally ready to play.

Well he is signing with the Heat as of today.

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=1922142

Recently waived Knicks forward Shandon Anderson has agreed to sign with the Miami Heat, according to a league source.

Anderson was in Miami on Saturday and has passed the team physical, paving the way for him to be officially signed either Sunday or Monday.

Anderson agreed to a $20 million buyout of the remaining three years, $24 million of his contract with the Knicks earlier in the week, paving the way for him to join the team of his choice.

A number of teams – including the Bulls, Rockets, Nuggets and Warriors -- also made a push for Anderson. However, Anderson wanted to join a team with a legitimate shot at an NBA title. The Heat are starting Rasual Butler --a former second-round pick in his third year -- ahead of veteran Wesley Person at small forward.
