You misread. Reaching in the sense that they're so anxious to see him fail that they need to cling to SOME form of hope as the reason why he'll fail. In other words: if he won't fail simply because he's not good enough to play anymore, they hope he fails because he supposedly can't stay healthy and/or his play will drastically decline as the season progresses like it did last year.

No disrespect, but I found your last statements to be borderline whacky. I mean, it almost sounds like you wouldn't agree with the statement that Favre is one of the most hated players in football. You claim you've read all these threads yet throughout them you haven't detected an ounce of hostility towards the guy? Are you telling me that you could take a thread like the 'Favre Decision' thread and disagree with my opinion that it was predominately negative/spiteful towards Favre? You claim you've read the threads and are daring me to start calling people out -- let's see this list of the seemingly brainwashed Favre fans with their blinders on that you speak first.

Pointless bickering aside, as for the actual football element: I know that Favre isn't exactly a model for consistency. And sure, he's naturally declining too. The flip side to that was that he was a recovered fumble away from bringing a team to the Super Bowl merely two seasons ago! We can talk about his shiesty numbers in the other three seasons as the man and being asked to throw for 4,000 yards every year, but the fact still remains that he's entirely capable of taking a talented team places. Enter: Minnesota. 10-6 the year before, lost nobody, added Percy Harvin, etc -- we're talking about the perfect storm for a "win now" type of player in Favre. The Vikings were 100%, unequivocally correct to assume that Favre was more likely to take this team to the next level than any of their other Canadien Football League level QB's were. ONLY, this time he gets to do it as somewhat of a game manager in a running system. This is the way I see it now and the way I have always seen it, hence why I scoff at the idea of Tarvaris Jackson being even remotely good enough to accomplish what Favre is seemingly capable of (and on track to) accomplishing.

The difference? And I made I lengthy post about this in the thread that you read: the weather. Despite his reputation for about 90% of his career, he can't play in the cold weather anymore hence the luxury of a QB playing for a dome team. Furthermore, 5/8 road games this year are either in domes or in warm weather, favorable conditions.

Simply stated: if Favre can stay healthy and/or nothing crazy or unforeseen happens, I think this year is going to be a wildly successful year for Favre and the Vikings. No, they haven't really beaten anybody but there's a mighty fine test coming up in the form of a team sporting the colors yellow and green, that he happens to know very well. We'll see what happens. Stay tuned....

If IF IF Favre can stay healthy and blah blah blah, I would agree with you. But only 3 out of 16 games have been played and drama seems to follow the Queen. Tell me who said the last 3-4 years defines his career. The whole point is they DO NOT, but why wouldn't they set the table for expectations this year? Did old Brett drink from the Fountain of Youth?

You might be the one eating crow in December. As you correctly said: "We'll see what happens. Stay tuned..."

It's not a big deal to me. Hell, I'm not even a Favre fan to be perfectly honest with you. I just try to call things the way I see them.
