If I were able to play professional baseball (my sport of choice) I'd be playing until they absolutely wouldn't take me anymore.

Why fans think a guy should quit doing what he loves to do all because fans and media will think less of him is beyond me.

It's not that he wants to play, it's the way he's gone about.

Don't get me wrong, I am a HUGE Favre fan, but his inability to make up his mind is starting to wear thin.

I had no problem with him playing with the Jets. Just please, play until you can't anymore. Then, retire. No need for emotional rolercoasters.

    Dear Brett,

I see nothing wrong with signing with Minnesota at this stage in your career.

    Signed,
    Robert Parish

I'm not going to begrudge Favre wanting to play again, heck I dragged my sore and creaky @ss to a Judo tournament this weekend after I retired three years ago. I agree his records and previous glory will still remain intact but football is a team sport and while Favre might still have something in the tank judging from last year its not enough to get through a whole season. On top of that Favre has been behaving like a primadonna about the whole thing.

If Favre wants to play again fine, come here and engage in a competition with Rosenfels and T-Jack. Don't come in at the last minute. Also don't start trying to chuck balls up into triple coverage. Seeing a former great go out there and hurt his team because he's trying to recapture glory while it might not destroy his spot in history doesn't help it.

IMO if Favre still wants to play he should take the Dikembe Mutumbo work with your team to help the young guys along while being the emotional leader in the locker room and the sidelines. Be ready to come in when the young guys falter and provide a lift. Look at Kurt Warner, Kerry Collins, Gus Frerotte, etc.. all of those guys got their shots off of the bench and played great. If Favre had been willing to do that with Aaron Rodgers he would likely still be getting praised and admired instead of reviled.

Anyway the sad thing about all of this is that Favre probably isn't going to be done with trying to play until he is either so reviled by fans for costing games that no organization will take the risk on him or he is carried off of the field in a stretcher.

    Legit annoyance.

If someone is willing to pay him to be a starter and name him a starter and he believes he's good enough to be a starter, why wouldn't he want to be a starter?

More power to him. I'd do the same thing.

Going back to MadMax's point though - why should any of that matter? If he wants to play, and if he doesn't care, then why do *we* care if his legacy is tarnished?

I agree he's annoying to keep claiming retirement and all that. And I think he's totally unethical lying to the Jets about retirement to get them to release him. But why is it a bad thing for him to play as long as he can/wants, even if he sucks?

    Last minute?? :D

It's May 4. We're still closer to the prior Super Bowl than we are to the first game of the season. We just finished the draft.

Call it a hunch but I have the feeling he's going pull a hamlet for a few months to keep the drama up and show up very late to training camp.

If this happens (Favre going to the Vikings), then 2 things come to mind:

    1) This insistence of sticking it to the Packers reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George had to find Riley so he could use the "jerk store" line on him. Like Favre, George had a hard time of letting it go (maybe that could become Favre's nickname, "Costanza").

    2) When Favre FINALLY retires from football (if that ever happens), I think he would have a great future in the professional wrestling business. Vince McMahon would probably be drooling about the possibilities with story lines and all that stuff with Favre.

Because it screwed over his team. Now I understand this is pro-sports and people are mercenary about it but that doesn't make it admirable.

What does the coverage you're seeing have to do with him tarnishing his legacy?

Favre and Lebron aren't that annoying.

    ESPN is annoying.

I am one of Favre's biggest critics, but you really think he should have been on the bench acting as a mentor for Kellen Clemens? el oh el?

Its reminding people that a once great quarterback is a primadonna who can't keep his word. I wouldn't really care except that I get bombarded with Favre coverage.

Its distracting my sports enjoyment from where it properly should be: ROCKETS MANIA!

    Favre's problem is he's moody.

When the season ends he's too pissed off and tired to think about ever playing again.

Then he sits out on some lake fishing for a while and then he realizes that his life is boring and he could be out there still feeling the glory of the national spotlight.
