The reason why the knicks cant get melo is because they won't give up Gallinari. Jeffries+ picks isn't better than melo. And his height won't matter much because he's out at the 3 point line most of the time.

I know some have asked, well why wouldnt Denver want Randolph or Gallinari instead of the picks or isnt AR and DG better than the picks?? Again, fwiw

Hell yes if we can get Anthony Randolph. I remember him having decent games against the Rockets dunking on Yao.

    From Mr. Feigen:

(Unless there is concern about Randolph's injuries in the past years, I would prefer that sort of deal. The Knicks have been very determined to keep Gallinari in the past. I would not give up two first rounders for him, but one with the trade exception would be good. -- Jonathan)

    ---

(The Rockets have always liked Randolph and had spoken to Golden State several times over the years. With Jordan Hill, there is less need for another young, athletic four to develop, but Morey is all about collecting assets. I don't think he would cut a guaranteed contract to do it so if they ever do land Dampier, the roster would be full so that might be that. The story read like conjecture when he said the Rockets might consider. Not much action in that sentence. -- Jonathan)

We have all this talk about Randolph, and the Knicks, and the Nuggets. But I haven't seen anyone come up with a deal that could trump what the Nets are currently offering the Nuggets. Favors is the key player from the Nuggets point of view. Favors is a player that the Nugget fans can get exited about, I don't see where the Knicks can put together a deal that the Nugget fans will be exited about.

Can someone show me a deal that is more appealing to the Nuggets than getting Favors and picks from the Nets.

Again. Randolph is in his contract year. One year rental for a rebuliding team is meaningless. Gallinari is overrated. He is not better than CBud.

Thing is Melo doesn't want to resign with the Nets if they trade everything away. Denver has to work within the teams Melo wants to go to.

So the 2nd one is really not a pick or most likely any kind of asset at all if they get Melo. So we are back to just having 1 NYK pick which by 2012 won't be all that great.

    This...

He is more of a 5, than a 3... I cringe whenever someone calls him a SF, which he is most certainly NOT.

    Hahahahah.

On a serious note, I don't know why we would do this unless we are for certain another team will trade a no 1. for Randolph.

    No, he's not.

There is a team option in his contract for 2011-12, which must be exercised this October.

Then, in 2012, he'll be a restricted free agent.

The Rockets would have to offer Denver something else. Like (a) Jordan Hill or (b) Patrick Patterson, or (c) agreeing to use the Ariza TPE to eat the salary of Birdman and/or Balkman.

Remember, Denver is way over the luxury tax number, so dumping a Birdman salary ($4.5 per year for 3 years, I think) is not insignificant.

True, but it works both ways. The Nuggets don't have to trade Melo to his preferred team(the Knicks) for little or nothing. Melo and the Nuggets have to work together to make this work. The Nets offer seems like a nice compromise for both sides. The Nuggets will lose Melo, but they have a young player(Favors) they can promote, and Melo still gets to go to a NY area team. I would be shocked if the Knicks can pull this off, but we will see.

Thanks i didn't realize this. Still, i wonder what we would do at the PF position if we're somehow able to add Randolph. Scola/Chuck/Hill/Pat/Jeffries are already scrapping for PT.

Favors has not played an NBA game yet. Everyone else involved has. Oh yeah, NY is where Melo wants to go. We could probably send Hill with the other outgoing Knick players.
Anyway you slice it, Denver would be better off in the near future dealing with Houston and NY as opposed to those other teams. Waiting 3-4 years for Favors to develop or bust is not ideal when you can get experienced talent now and then try to draft a Favors-like player later.

CH, as you informed me (via Larry Coon), the Rockets don't need to use the Ariza TPE to absorb Balkman's ($1.9M) salary, since they still have the full $3M Carl Landry TPE.

To all others, FYI: Courtney Lee was acquired using most of the ($2.5M) TPE created in the David Andersen-to-Toronto trade. ESPN Trade Machine has it wrong.
