an additional first round pick.. as in 1 first rder PLUS another first rder EQUALS 2 first rd picks which is greater than 1 first rd pick. thats why

The Rockets could still get Randolph and get a NY 1st round pick. The Rockets could push all the draft picks, a year.

    1) Knicks give 2011 draft pick in package for Carmelo
    2) Knicks move Rocket's 2011 pick swap to 2012.
    3) Knicks move Rocket's 2012 draft pick to 2013.

The value of the picks plummet, but we get Randolph.

The pick will be worthless, if NY has 'Melo. They will be top 4-5 in the east.

Randolph just to give the Knicks pick back to them? Sure, I don't mind helping NY get Melo if that's the case. I love Randolph's game (not his attitude but this team can handle him)

so by your reasoning denver wouldn't want picks from any team they trade melo too.

this seems like a good idea because even if new york does get a pick back they still cant make a better offer than new jersey.

and so a nuggets pick at lets say 16th AND another first round pick at lets say 30 (since the knicks will apparently win it all with melo..) is NOT something the nuggs would want? instead of one pick? you make no sense.. a first rd pick always has absolute worth, maybe its relative worth with regard to what the picks could have been is much lower but it is still a FIRST RD PICK

The man is talented but hopefully his attitude is better. Especially after this.

    There are two possible scenarios:
    1) They get picks from someone who would suck (relatively) even with 'Melo (Nets, for example)
    2) They get picks from another team in a multi-team trade

And in BOTH cases there not going to just want low-value picks. What's NY got to trade besides that? Nothing.

This is just the same stupid wishful thinking of the NY media. How anyone still falls for it, after their 1+ year of hyping up what was essentially a big lie about Lebron, is beyond me.

most sources agree that it is the knicks' 2011 pick that could be the tipping point for denver. if ny also ships that pick to denver, a deal would be likely.

retain more value from assisting another team than help the knicks land melo.

why worry about where he fits? We're pretty much stocked at every position...remember Morey drafts based on talent, not need, so it's not like we'd plug our weakest position witht he pick for sure, we could end up with another guard or PF....with a potential lockout and college players holding back this draft, it may be a weak one, so teams may get crap after the first five picks, which leaves us with a small chance of landing an impact player. Randolph may be the best talent we can get from this pick. We can always works out a trade later...

Also, i wonder if they'd do a separate deal first? We can get randolph and the knicks could still end up without melo...

actually address what i said rather than dismiss it because it started with the words 'most sources". here, replace "most sources" with "common sense" or "adequate reasoning" or "some type of cognitive thought process"

WojYahooNBA : "All that said, let's remember: Melo still hasn't committed to this deal with Jersey. Still, wheels are in motion for bigger things."

That was tweeted about an hour ago from that dude from Yahoo sports. He seems to know his stuff, and has reliable resources. When he said "wheels are in motion for bigger things" I couldn't help but think Morey was cooking up something.

I guess this is Morey's strategy. He doesn't want Melo to approve NJ's deal soon.

i'm not sure we'd want the guy here anymore....i cant blame him for what he is doing now, if he wants to go home, then fine..but if he ends up coming here because home couldnt happen and he just wanted to get out of denver...i'd be worried about that...no one on the team right now would demand a trade if things went south. Melo? If he's done it before, he'll do it again.

Yeah a few of us were thinking something like this was gonna happen a few days ago.

Why not get Randolph for picks that will lose value the minute Melo suits up for the Knicks?

    Assets. Assets. Assets.

You let Randolph, Hill and Patterson compete for playing time and then trade away who doesn't work out.

Morey is bringing in so many players that have positive value you have to think there is a 3-for-1 type deal in the works down the road.

wouldn't randolph be worth more than any NY draft pick if the nuggets do trade melo to the knicks? why wouldn't the nuggets want randolph instead in that scenario?
