I heard Fox news yesterday making the case about how the Guam threat was different in that it wasn't as broad and fanatical so IT MUST be much much more serious.

Then, right after praised Trump for his bombastic, generic claims saying it shows much more strength...dear god were the N Korea in this situation

Mattis joins Tillerson as an adult in the room and tones down the U.S. position as "diplomatic"...

I was talking to a friend about this at lunch. We have to take this situation seriously but I don't think it is time to panic. Both Trump and Kim Jong Un are ego maniacal blowhards but I don't think they are suicidal.

Thank goodness I can continue to dislike Rosie O'Donnell and not care about what she thinks. I was getting worried, thanks for the update.

I trust Tillerson and Mattis are really doing the work with Trump playing the role of the fragile minded teenage girl. I think those in the govt knows Trump just tweets stuff and has no real credibility.

Trump's rhetoric is not dangerous in the sense that it will entice or provoke KJU to attack, IMO. This was a test by both China and Russia to gauge Trump, in which for the US, I believe he did a pretty poor job. How he has gone about this alone on the super aggressive front has pushed people from both parties and even in his own cabinet to deliver conflicting and even opposing narratives. Although this is a criticism of Trump's leadership, please ignore the person I am criticizing to talk about the greater issue rather than to break it down to a Trump hater comment.

For the near future and I hope forever, the US and China are not going to engage in direct combat, but a more dignified handling of something the it essentially universally agreed upon as a negative, DPRK, gives China an opportunity to take on a more agreeable role in leadership. We all know China wants North Korea around to keep a potentially democratic unified peninsula supporting USA off of their border...as well as, not having to handle the refugees that will inevitably come from a war. China will not take a leading role because they know the US options, with Trump, are going to be geopolitically unpalatable.

What are the options? 1) Pre-emptive strike: I see very little pros to the situation. We can take out a lof of targets, but we are not going to be able to prevent a NK retaliation. It leaves the question of if we didn't strike would the retaliation or the presumed NK (cause for preemptive) have ever happened. 2) Wait for a NK strike. Cons are obvious. We could have done something. Casualties from wherever the attack is. Pros: Undoubted support internationally for our strike...maybe even regime change, pressure on China.

Personally I believe we should offer humanitarian support for the citizen of DPRK as a gesture from their "enemy" of proof of no intention to attack. The entire rhetoric of DPRK is that USA wants to kill them all yada yada. I believe if we can show our tie to them or dependency in some fashion economically as an act of cooperation that the regime will have a harder time pointing a finger at us. And of course, we can take these away at a moments notice. The isolation and sanctions put in place by the international community do not prevent them from advancing their nuclear capabilities. It only hurts the citizens. Russia and China have both ramped up their trade with NK this year and they wont stop sanctions or not...They violated the sanctions they just put in place ..what are we gunna do to China? They know we cant cut them off.

All in all..I wish Trump's rhetoric had a diplomatic path to it. I get it tough strong, we are great and can destroy you...and we can! But what is the option of diplomacy? Please give us a plan. There is no element of surprise in diplomacy..you can share your ideas with the public to get support...but meh
