im with you. Yes we need shooters, but really we need guards that can shoot. We only have 2 guards rostered right now; 3 if we pick up Holiday’s option. And there are definitely rotation worthy guards that can be had for the NTMLE. Guys like Grimes, Ellis, Beasley and Alexander-Walker are probably out of reach, but you definitely try for one of those guys. If we strike out, there’s that next tier with Trent Jr, Luke Kennard, and Sam Merril. If Melton can stay healthy he might be someone to consider, although I’d rather someone with more size.
Well Philly just drafted another sg with the 3rd pick so I can see Grimes being available. We all know Daryl Morey doesn’t mind going the cheap route.
Are you saying only 2 guards that can shoot? I count 4 guards overall rostered, 5 if the Rockets pick up Holiday's option. Only 2 of them would I classify as shooters not counting Holiday.
he is decline his player option, im just saying objectively he should be a all around player we probably should consider
Pretty sure that ship has sailed. The Rockets aren't a rebuilding team that should risk bringing in a head case bench guy. He had his chance and blew it.
were you there to see what really happened? did you see any picture of that girl injuries face? if you didn't follow all the details of the case don't jump to the conclusion of it.
I don’t think y’all boys should sleep on the return of Gary2Gritty 11 high volume and percentage shooters who are big enough to share the floor with Reed T.Hardaway Jr T.Prince G.Mathews G.Trent Jr M.Beasley - N.Alexander-Walker L.Kennard T.Jerome Q.Grimes S.Merrill A.Burks Under the dash are players who could be theoretically asked to do some ball handling as combo guards (Grimes surprisingly had an assist rate over 20% last season). I removed EG, Batum and McDermott from the list to keep it under 35. Alec Burks does a lot as a vet min candidate. Similarly, Mathews is as much of a 3PT flame thrower as guys who are likely to be much more expensive, probably hustles harder on D than most as well.
People are all looking at the top end of FA but I think the Rockets should go for two small moves. One at center one at PG. The former because Adams has an injury history and you don't want Sengun to get too much workload. And unless Jabari has bulked up, he's not suited for playing stretch 5 at least in the regular season. Brook Lopez, Horford, Looney are guys that could work. Same with PG. You want some options should FVV or one of Amen/Reed is injured, and you need someone better at running point than Holiday. Examples would be players like Brogdon or Dinwiddie. The Rockets can offer in the neighborhood of $5mil for each player, which is higher than the minimum and in line with tax payer MLE.
Appreciate this post! We especially need someone to up our assist game (abysmal!) I like the thought of Jerome but just think Cavs will do their utmost to keep him. Plus they have some Bird rights on him & Merrill. Question is how much tax are they willing to endure? We need to bring in some cap guys to figure out how to make the Grimes S&T work. But that would cap us at the 1st apron tho. I did a S&T of Tate (3 years, $30M) + Landale for Grimes (3 years, $60M) and it worked in FanSpo. Alec Burks intrigues me as well. Wanted to trade for him (& Himmie) at trade deadline last year. Burks should be attainable with VM deal. I think somebody gives Kennard a big chunk of their MLE. Not us. I am not sure about NAW. Need to do further research as a preliminary look was just meh.
Reed and Fred…and Holiday (if we pick up the option). Who else? Nate Williams on the non guaranteed contract?
