How would a woman defend herself against a stronger man without a firearm?

holding as deterrent, as you said, don't work as self evidence with people getting shots and killed every day

"After we adjusted for numerous confounding factors, gun possession by urban adults was associated with a significantly increased risk of being shot in an assault. On average, guns did not seem to protect those who possessed them from being shot in an assault. Although successful defensive gun uses can and do occur,33,57 the findings of this study do not support the perception that such successes are likely.

A few plausible mechanisms can be posited by which possession of a gun increases an individual's risk of gun assault. A gun may falsely empower its possessor to overreact, instigating and losing otherwise tractable conflicts with similarly armed persons. Along the same lines, individuals who are in possession of a gun may increase their risk of gun assault by entering dangerous environments that they would have normally avoided.5860 Alternatively, an individual may bring a gun to an otherwise gun-free conflict only to have that gun wrested away and turned on them."

Family visiting from out of state speaks out on River Market shooting

    https://www.kark.com/crime/family-visiting-from-out-of-state-speaks-out-in-river-market-shooting/

    excerpt:

It’s a calm Wednesday afternoon, but on Memorial Day, it was a different story for a family visiting Little Rock from out of state.

They were in town to celebrate their daughter’s seventh birthday.

“Taking her to the water parks, and the Zoo, just having a little family time with her,” the father said.

This father, his pregnant wife, and their two girls were packing their car in a river market parking garage when they got attacked.

According to the police report, the wife said her husband was hit multiple times and tackled to the ground by another man.

Then, that person went to the driver’s seat where he struck the wife.

“Ah, just a fractured rib, and my wife has a couple of knots on her forehead where he apparently punched her,” the father said.

The report states the wife pulled out her gun and shot the person in the neck.

“A lot of things could’ve happened and we never know what he was really planning or anything. if he was trying to kidnap our girls or just trying to steal the car or what,” the father said.
