My personal mindful prejudice before I opened this thread was that the Battier jock-riders would be out in full force defending their Prince of Intangibles. I've read 3 posts...Outta here. Not remotely possible for a realistic discussion about the future when so many enjoy Battier's shorts for brunch.
Big News!!! Hedo T. rejected the Blazers!! WOW does that really open up the possible of a Battier and more for Fernandez and more? http://blog.oregonlive.com/behindblazersbeat/2009/07/hedo_turkoglu_agrees_to_join_t.html
THIS is the deal we NEED to make. After that we will have Aaron Brooks Rudy Fernandez Trevor Ariza We need to get Chris Bosh in either a trade or a free agent in 2010. Yao will be healthy... Aaron Brooks Rudy Fernandez Trevor Ariza Chris Bosh Yao Ming ------------------------- Luis Scola Kyle Lowry
Portland would ask for Aaron instead of the pick. Unfortunately Aaron would be perfect on that team, and as a local dude, get lots of love from fans. Stranger things have happened, but Houston and Portland making a trade would floor me.
how about battier + cook for mike miller? who has 1 yr expiring contact and he can be a good backup once tmac is back. why WAS need battier? they're in a win mode situation now, and non of their starters r defensive specialist.
I've read the whole thread and I'd say that maybe 75% of the posts are in favor of trading Battier or at least open to discussing him being traded. Which 3 posts did you read?
The pick would have to be heavily protected. I wouldn't risk going into next year with someone else owning our unprotected pick.
Why? Both are backups to their two franchise players. Not too many minutes to lose and Fernandez is clearly grumpy with the situation.
Agree, I think Portland might have screwed themselves a bit with the Hedo thing because now Fernandez is pissed and Outlaw I am sure aint to happy. Actually, id be mad at Hedo for letting his wife boss him around a bit to much but thats another story....
I don't know where you are getting this "Brooks has no room for growth" thing. He's seemingly gotten better with each game since he took over the starting spot. You're overrating Oden's potential at this point. His progress up to this point has been a disappointment. Aside from his inability to stay out of foul trouble, his game is "there" defensively but right now he's nothing more than a 7-foot version of Ben Wallace. His footwork and basic fundamentals on offense are abysmal. The only reason I suggested this trade is Portland has Pryzbilla, Aldridge plus whichever 4/5 they'll acquire with their abundance of cap space -- adding a "win now" type player like Battier which makes them serious may be worth getting over Oden being their former #1 overall pick (something you seem unable to overlook). Now that Turkeyglue spurned them and they'll still seek that veteran presence that they covet, I wouldn't rule out this possibility if Morey or Pritchard choose to pursue this.
Why do people like Prizbilla so much? I see him in so many trade threads. He has 2 years at ~9 mil per year. He'll literally push us over the cap(or close to it) next season by himself.
Pryzbilla ... ugh! And why would you give away a draft pick? Battier for Fernandez + Outlaw is just fine ...
Battier, Barry and Luellen for Outlaw, Fernandez, Freeland and Koppenen Then Outlaw, Brooks, Landry and a lotto protected 1st for Rubio and Filler Keep McLazys contract and try to sign Bosh in 2010 2009 would look like this Ariza, Budinger Scola, Hayes, Cook C Freeland Nesterovic Min FA pick up, Yao, Dorsey SG Fernandez, Taylor, Mcgrady PG Rubio, Lowery, Kopponen
Probably not. The whole idea in the first place was based on the report that Fernandez was unhappy that the Blazers were going to sign Hedo. Maybe if Brooks was included to expand the deal.
