And sometimes you wind up overpaying Maurice Taylor. I am admittedly having a hard time going from 1 piece away a few weeks ago to rebuilding. So bare with me.
If we trade Battier, I don't want him to go to a west contender, especially Portland, I hate them... So heres some senarioes I thought of... Battier to CHI for Tyrus Thomas and fillers...(Thomas is an expiring contract) Battier to CHA for Gerald Wallace Battier to PHI for Marreese Speights and fillers Battier to DC for Nick Young and fillers... thoughts?
how so??? much better?? That argument is impossible to make because they just matched up in a 6 game playoff series and they were pretty much a wash... And IMO Von had the better series....
We couldn't get Gerald Wallace. Bobcats are already one of the best defensive team they need offense. G-Force>Battier
Ya then lets give Yao over to the Mavericks. Then we can give Landry to the Nuggets.Brooks to San Antonio.Scola to the Hornets. What else could we do to improve our competition.
He can play PG but you don't want that to be his primary position especially on a team that doesn't even have a healthy 2 guard right now. Portland seldom used him at the point and if Rudy is unhappy about bringing in Hedo then he must feel Portland has little plans on him playing at the point.
Here is probably the best trade for Battier... Battier to DC for Nick Young and Brendan Haywood Haywood is expiring at 5.5 MIL...Haywood is a 7 footer... he can be the starting center this year... Nick Young is a great prospect at the 2 guard he is 6-6 Wiz probably do this deal cause they want to contend next year... They got McGee and Blatche, who can play Center for them... they got Randy Foye, Mike Miller and DeShaun Stevenson so Nick Young can be moved... thoughts? I think this would be better than the Fernandez deal......
Wow the outrage is just strange. I said we two guys playing the same role (Ariza and Battier) and I wanted to trade one of them Battier for a guy with a different set of skills and tools to bring to the table. This has nothing to do with giving away players to the competetion. Battier is an excellent player and team defender but he lacks a serious offensive threat. Even he said it himself when Kobe decided to no to guard him in those 7 games.
You are crazy if you think Portland takes Battier and Brooks for Oden. COME ON. Young #1 draft pick center with still SERIOUS UPSIDE. NO CHANCE THEY WOULD TAKE THAT. GIVE ME A BREAK. Do you know how hard it is to get a quality 7 footer. Battier doesn't make them any better and Brooks is only a slight improvement at the point for them.
I like it. This team would look a lot better than I thought it would after the Yao news, Gortat to Dallas, and Artest to the frakkin' Lakers. My conern is losing toughness in Artest and Battier, but we'd be more athletic and younger. Maybe Adelman can turn Fernandez into a poor man's Peja from his Sacramento days.
I don't think the would trade Battier for Oden. But Battier makes them a lot better. Gives them a lockdown defender and a great leader.
And removing Oden makes them MUCH weaker inside. You don't think Morey would be offering up Brooks and Battier for Oden if it was possible. Portland would laugh at him so he isn't making that call. Throw in Landry and at least they might not laugh at him, but still say no. You people are underestimating the value of a 7 footer that EVERY GM takes into account. Oden is not on the trading blocks unless you blow them away and Brooks/Battier is far from blowing them away.
at first I was thinking along the same lines as you...BUT... I realised whats wrong with him going to a West contender??? Its not like we're going to have a legit chance of competing next year...in fact I hope we pull a Sacramento and end up with the worst record in the league... Him going to a contender doesnt interfere with our longterm plans...
Typing in CAPS doesn't make you informed. Not only is your ability to judge talent shaky (Brooks being a "slight improvement" at the point, Battier "not making them better") but your concept of upside is rather comical too. Oden possesses upside yet Brooks does not? Yeah, okay. You're placing entirely too much emphasis upon draft stock. This is the NBA, a league where either you can play or you can't. Brooks' stock is sky high right now (and rightfully so). Oden's isn't as high as it should be due to his durability issues and mild progress. Portland has arguably the worst PG rotation in the league, they just got scorched by Brooks (an Oregon guy) in the playoffs and they have wanted Battier for over two years now. Keep believing what you want to believe, though.
If they fail to get Hedo and decide to go after a PG free agent like Miller, they won't need Blake. So maybe Battier for Rudy+Blake? They'd be upgrading their two weakest positions, PG and SF.
we are going to keep battier... but i would work with another package.... say send tmac and landry for roy and fernandez??
