Every good team also has a role player who brings good defense. And at his current salary, which isn't far off of Shane's, the question is why are we even discussing this? Re-signing Artest is a no brainer

i'm so tired of this logic.

We had Yao to make it to the 2nd round, something we would have done last year as well. You act like it's all t-mac's fault for all of our failures.

    1) our very own von wafer is an unrestricted FA
    2) chris anderson (what we all want from ron AND MORE without all the bad offense)
    3) trevor ariza (too bad the lakers will never give him up). he would be PERFECT for our team.

that's just a few off the top of my head that will require MUCH less money but can have a bigger impact.

So why not have both of them on the team? I don't understand. Besides, we probably won't even have McGrady next year, the guy is injured.

Who exactly was Ron Artest leading? No one. He's a volatile role player capable of single-handedly winning us games or losing us games. Our leader is Adelman, that is all. If Artest was leading the train, we'd crash.

I said we should re-sign him as well but to become a role player and not a superstar. we need his defense.

    I don't think it's a simple yes/no question. It's very conditional because Artest's game is highly variable.

It's not even logic he's using. That's the thing. tinman doesn't use logic.

i hate artest? i was giving him all the love after game 6 and 1. but the thing is, his impact is overblown. scola and brooks brought their games to the next level in this playoffs and shane really showed why he's the best glue guy (and yes, shane totally proved me wrong in this playoffs).

again, sign the guy if it's $8mil/yr or less. i never said not to resign him, jeez.

You mean like how T-Mac gave his all the last few postseasons and was thrown under the bus by posters like you?

Again, the Rockets can sign EVERYBODY, this isn't Artest vs McGrady, Artest vs Von Wafer or Artest vs anybody.

So you're saying that all these players are better than Artest? I ask because that is the question I had originally asked. And as for having a "bigger impact", I would like to ask "How so?"

    1. Wafer is as mercurial as anyone. He can bring offense but that defense is no where to be found.

    2. Yea you're right. He'll bring all we want and more but WITHOUT any offense. You try running a front line of Hayes-Andersen and see where that ges us

    3. Ariza? Save for the dunks, isn't he a poor man's Battier?

a good lineup would look like this.

    tmac
    yao
    brooks
    artest/battier
    scola

I don't know how long you've been watching sports but you don't sign players on the condition that they "become" a role player.

"Hey Ron, we'll give you 8 mil a year but we need you to contractually agree to ONLY be a roleplayer and not a superstar"

it isn't. that's what posters like tinman is trying to make it out to be. i'm simply answering the OP.

most likely, ron will demand $10 mil or more and i'm sure some teams will give that to him. i'm sure he sees a guy like odom getting paid $14 mil and he might ask that much. he's been a great citizen this year, no off the court dramas, and was part of a successful playoff run.

but his production doesn't warrant that, in my opinion.
