Now that the season is over, should we trade rafer?

arenas is NOT a PG
kidd - rafer is better than for our team b/c kidd is not good anymore
monta is NOT a PG
rondo woulnd't fit this team b/c he can't shoot 3s to save his life
harris would be perfect for this team

I am not against upgrading from Rafer. But I don't think PG is our highest priority. Last summer, it was. This summer, it won't.

Yes, his shooting is streaky. I don't think that will ever change. His finishing is much better this year. That, I think, is the key to his success this year.

We do need better back up at PG. I assume that Bobby Jackson isn't gonna stick. Even if he does, he is even more inconsistent than Rafer. We need a reliable shooter as Rafer's backup so Adelman can yank him whenever he is cold.

I am still not sure about Brooks. He is supposed to be a good shooter. He hasn't been able to hit consistently. Maybe after a year of experience, he will improve.

The highest priority is getting a good shooter at the wing to back up McGrady and Battier. Head is just too small (no pun intended ) and he has bad handle, and he can't play SF. Bonzi was supposed to be that guy. But Bonzi isn't a 3pt threat. And for some reason, he lost his ability to finish around the basket. Brent Barry would have been great. Too bad he works for the Spurs.

If we can get a consistent shooter off the bench, it will be a good roster upgrade without disrupting the core. I like the core. We just need some more help. This team is very easy to root for. All great guys, unselfish, hard working, good chemistry. Just lack a little bit in the shooting department... and the health department too.

 

im absolutely positive rafer will stay next year just because how well he played this season. adelman would trade francis, bjax, and one of his limbs before he trades rafer. everyone in houston knew the game was over once rafer got injured last night. he's defintely here to stay.

also PG shouldnt be our main concern this offseason. it should be finding a 3rd scorer.

 

The Rockets better not settle on not improving the point guard position because Alston is not consistent enough in shooting to be a starting caliber point guard on this team. He's a backup.

 

Exactly. He is highly inconsistent, but he runs the offense so well. I say keep him unless we for sure get a guy who will be a significant upgrade. And I don't mean Mike James.

 

Rafer is the most important player the past season.

 

Oh HEEECK no you don't trad hime. Are you crazy? With Rafer we were 2-1 against Utah. Without him we were completely hopeless.

He has thoroughly outplayed Mike James, Bobby Jackson, Steve Francis, Aaron Brooks. It's not even close.

You try to upgrade the position, of course, maybe with the hopes of putting Rafer in a backup role. But you don't get rid of him.

Yes, and we could be 3-0 with Duncan and instead of Yao. Or Kobe instead of Tmac. Or Garnett instead of Battier. So what?

 

We need a better PG!

Seriously, it is no way for us to get Duncan, Garnett or Kobe. But, we could get a better pg than Rafer. So, it is the best way for the rockets to improve the team.

 

How can we get a better PG than Rafer? We tried getting Mike James and Steve Francis, and they both sucked. We tried Bobby Jackson, and he is not a PG.

If it was so easy, we would have done it already.

 

This is a tough one because I fully believe w/ Rafer last night, we would have won. He is that important. That said, he probably has his highest value now and we could maybe net someone better. Dont know who though.

And he probably plays crappy D and would get torn up by Deron Williams.

 

Exactly. People say we should get a better PG. Who? Propose a realistic scenario and we can talk. I am all for an upgrade. But how?

I have faith in Morey that he won't do knee-jerk things just for the sake of change.

 

only trade Rafer if its in a scenario where we get a PG like Baron Davis. Otherwise we must keep him, his play this season was a very pleasant surprise, and when he went down it became obvious how much we needed him.

 

Are you kidding? Monta Ellis is a great PG

 

The raptors just can keep one of Calderon and Ford. It is hard for them to trade Ford. BTW, Ford claimed he wanted to stay in Toronto, but Calderon didn't say that. I believe Calderon will sign with other team this summer.
