Now that the 2003-2004 season is over, what should the Rockets do to improve?

Get a player with an IQ in the double digits.

I swear the Special Olympics can field a team that would confuse the Rockets on both ends of the court.

You gotta give time to Yao. He needs to build on his upper body. We have given Francis and Mobley too much time. Mobley is a pure shooting guard. Francis is too. He doesn't fit as a PG. He's gotta go. Yao, just hit the weights.....

Hitting weights is not the problem. The problem is that Yao doesn't have the attitude to become a star. He's content with being just a good player rather than a great player. He needs to take the bull by the horns. If not, he's just a Rik Smits.

    1. POWER FOWARD, we need one badly, more than anything else.
    a. Rasheed Wallace-depends on Pistons in playoffs.
    b. Marcus Camby-plays well under JVG, was an all-star.

    2. Backup PG, nobody spectacular, but some energy and smarts.
    a. Tony Delk- doesn't play in Dallas at all.
    b. Darrell Armstrong- is he a FA?
    c. Speedy Claxton- quick and has ton of energy.

    3. A Taller Small Forward, JJ's been good, but is too short.
    a. Shawn Marion- pipedream.
    b. Rashard Lewis- is on the trading block, could be done.

The Rox are close, we've seen it in them, but we need to add one more big component and some more role players. Boki should start seeing some time next season.

AND JVG, PLEASE, OR ATLEAST ATTEMPT TO PUT OUR OFFENSE BACK TOGETHER. Steve Franics-Yao Ming-Cuttino Mobley-Jim Jackson-Maurice Taylor, should be scoring 95-99ppg.

He has the attitude. Give him time to adjust. This was just his 2nd year. Francis has been in the league for a while. He still hasn't adjusted. He still thinks he is the man on this team. He isn't. Send him somewhere else where he thinks he can play. Clutch, please go through your sources and get Brent Barry for us! :D

We don't need him. He's not any better than Cato at PF IMO.

The guy I want is Al Harrington. The guy is going to be a top PF for years to come, maybe not an all-star, but a key guy on any team. If he gets a starting job next year, he will win the most improved player award.

I'd love to get Barry, but I'm sure their will be high demand for him. It'd be great for him and Steve to start, and have Cat coming off the bench.

    Goals:

#1: Get a power foward who can bang with the bigger boys out west. A 4 who can hit the outside shot, yet can defend the paint.

#2: Look towards reliefs. We don't want our best players (cat/steve) playing almost the entire game because if we dont, we lose productivity with our offense and defense. Pick up a high energy player (NVE-Remember last yr for the Mavs? Now look at that trade. VERY BAD)

#3: Don't disect the team by all means and erase the little chemistry we did have. Keep the chemistry, just tweak it here and there. Show confidence in our players. Jeff said himself, the toughest two positions to fill is the 1 and the 5 spot. Yao fills the 5 perfectly. Steve isn't fit for being someone who distributes and only scores when the ball bounces back his way. The answer isn't Steve, its the people around him. We need someone, short or tall, who can fill those needs. We need someone who can be totally unselfish, who can see a play develope 2 seconds before it happens. Steve is a scoring guard. Don't surround him by players who can score at any given moment. Movement without the ball is what gets assist and open shots. Especially in this game, I watched when Steve had the ball. All the other Rockets watched him, waiting for him to do something. He was doing the same, waiting for them to move, set screens, back picks.... anything they could.

If we fill these needs in the offseason, then the league better keep a closer eye on us for next season.

Hire another coach other than Ewing to tutor Yao. Ewing has done his share, but now he might be forcing Yao to be a player that he is not. Where are Yao's shanghai shakes, spin moves and up and unders. etc? Yao is now being molded into a power player against Shaq. That's what's happening in this series. Yao tries to force his way and got thrown off his rhythm. Yao has to refine his skills and moves while improving strength, not to discard skills in order to improve strength. Yao needs to get his post moves back.

    Panda,

Good points, but Yao was not in the NBA when he was playing for the Sharks, and I doubt that anyone in the CBA was as good as Shaq.

Get another superstar in here like Tmac or Rasheed Wallace, then the ROx will be elite again. Trade Francis for Tmac, then sign Wallace in the summer. DONE DEAL!! This team don't need a PG anyway as Steve demonstrate he ain't a true PG. This team need a serious overhaul like the Wolves did this year to make them a contender.

WTF? Yao, 2nd year in the NBA, helping the Rockets make it to the playoffs for the 1st time in 5 years. Francis, since he has been w/ the Rockets, never did that. Sell high=Francis.
