I'm going to vomit if Va Tech goes instead of LSU. LSU beat Va Tech 48-7. There shouldn't be any discussion about who is the better team. The Big 10 is the biggest chicken**** conference....no conference championship game and a bunch of mediocre teams. Ohio State will lose by 20 points to LSU if they played.
I dare any of the Southern Conference teams to play a game in November in a Big 10 stadium against a Big 10 team. 73% of the Big 10 have a >.500 record, only 50% for the Big 12, 67% for the SEC, 40% for the Pac10, and 58% for the ACC. You might still disagree, but that chicken**** conference was best conference in terms of winning.
Ohio State vs. LSU it looks like according to the Coaches Poll which is crucial. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/usatpoll.htm AP Poll- does not count for much... http://www.usatoday.com/sports/college/football/appoll.htm
If you think the Big Ten is a good conference, then there's really no discussing football with you. You can't talk about winning percentage alone because it doesn't discuss strength of schedule. I agree with bigtexxx.
No use arguing now.... We'll just see if Ohio-state or whoever the team that they will play with are better. Oh, and it's Ohio-state for me!!! so we'll see if I'll eat crow or you'll eat crow after the national championship.
Did you watch football last year? florida 41 - ohio state 14 ohio state is not on the same level as the sec
The Buckeyes went to a strip club the night before, and played with their head up their asses. Big Ten > SEC.
first off, the Pac-10 and Big East are weaker conferences than the Big-10. So sick and tired of ESPN talking heads talking about how great the Pac-10 is, its garbage. no conference championship game, take that up with the commishes of those conferences. they're the ones that decided to implement it.
I also hate the fact that if Ohio State makes it to the National Title game they would be doing so by default. They didn't have to play anyone in a conference championship game and are only going to get to the title game because Mizzou and West Virginia lost yesterday. They didn't earn the bid, but perhaps would get the chance to play for the title by not playing a game yesterday.
I agree - I think in order to level the playing field all BCS conferences must have a championship game. With it looking like Ohio State is going to be in the title game a bad precedent is going to be set. Schedule four cupcakes for non-conference play; win a conference with no championship game and have other teams (with a conference championship game) lose and then just back door your way into the title game.
No, they made it because they won the games they were supposed to win minus Illinois (which is a good program).
No. They got there by default. They didn't have to play the extra game that other good teams have to play.
Ohio State backdoored their way in. This shouldn't even be a discussion if certain teams took care of business though.
LOL!!!! Are you serious? OK, the Big Ten teams have a better winning record, they also have one less team than the SEC. You drop one team and the SEC's winning is right there with the Big Ten. Then take a look at each team's conference record. The SEC has 8 teams with .500 or better records in conference, the Big Ten only has 6. All SEC teams were .500 or better against non-conference opponents, the same cannot be said for Big Ten teams. Oh, and a #5 Michigan lost to a Division-II Appalachian State...AT HOME!!! I am also willing to bet SEC teams played and defeated better non-conference opponents than the Big Ten teams. Not to mention the thrashing Ohio State took last year. Big Ten better than the SEC, yeah right! LOL!
Man...I'm an OSU fan and even I'll concede that Big Ten <<< SEC...Big Ten (being traditionally smashmouth, coldweather teams) is more power. SEC has more speed and is just on a different level. LSU will cream OSU...and yes, as much as I hate the bucks being badmouthed, they deserve it this year.
What's funny is that as other posters have stated earlier in this thread is that there is already a precedent for this analysis - last years title game in which Ohio State got dismantled by a vastly superior Florida. Conference play in the SEC prepares teams like LSU much better than conference play did Ohio State. I expect the same thing to happen this year if Ohio State plays LSU in the Superdome for the title (practically a home game for LSU).
