aw i am so sorry, SF. I can't imagine your loss. Your dogs were in heaven with you so just know that.
That sucks, man. Sorry to hear about your loss. I have a 17 year-old cat struggling with diabetes and it's only a matter of time before she succumbs... though she has had 17 strong years in her (well, the last 1 or 2 haven't been so strong) and now she gets pampered like no other cat ever. It'll be hard losing her, but I think I'm already resigned to it so it shouldn't be too bad. We lost her sister to liver failure a year ago, too. Old cats, man. The freak injuries/afflictions are the worst though. It's really only happened twice for me: once with my dog that had a stroke, and another when one of my cats (my favorite one ever, really) choked on food while I was asleep. It's a lot harder to deal with when it's sudden, IMO. Rest assured though, you did the right thing in putting her to asleep. Always be happy to know that. But you know what? There's a never-ending supply of companionship out there at the SPCA. Give yourself some time to grieve, then go get yourself another friend for a decade (or hopefully two!).
Not gonna lie, I teared up going through this thread. I'm so sorry for your loss Surfguy and know you're in some pretty awful pain right now. You seem like a great dog owner and hopefully there comes a time when you're able to give some other lucky pups a home. I have two beagles that are a handful sometimes, but I love them dearly and know how difficult it will be when their time comes. They'll be getting extra-spoiled today. Keep your head up.
