Well if u invite me,pay my plane ticket, find me a house etc... I can! After all,who else than a Frenchmen to direct a French play! ALA
You're the first person in recorded history to say that about Chapel Hill anyway. Can't speak to the absence/presence of a theatre scene....
Best of luck Batman. Can't really give you much first-hand advice as far as destinations go, I've traveled all over the U.S. but have never lived outside Texas. You said you love the Big Sky country, I've got a friend who moved to Boise, Idaho about a year ago & absolutely loves it. Houston will be a less entertaining place without you running things over at IBP, I caught Meat/BAR & was quite impressed. Sorry I didn't say howdy after the show, you were talking to 4 or 5 people already & my date & I were late for a party. Before you go, we need a get-together at Rudz...first pint or two are on me.
Batman, I'll go out on a limb and say that you would enjoy Portland, and Portland would enjoy you. I didn't think that the Houston-->Portland move was too traumatic. Wonderful town, a little cloudy, but it'd be a place ripe for your company I think. Wish San Francisco was on your list of possibilities, because theater here, outside of the occasional word-for-word show, bites ass. Best wishes for the move.
Thanks for all the advice, fellas. If I go to LA it'll be because of money, not in spite of it. But thanks for the warnings re: cost of living -- If the thing I'm working on comes to fruition I'll be sure to ask for a lot. Toronto would be because I've heard good things about the theater scene. MacB: can you confirm or deny? NC would be at least partly because of a girl. She's awesome, but it's not enough of a reason to move there. Figure I'd need to hear of a job. Atlanta would be because of work. There are a couple of theaters interested. It'd be a short term thing. I didn't care for San Francisco when I was there. It's nice, but not nice enough to justify the cost of living and the money that'd be available to me there isn't what it'd be in LA. San Diego's a possibility. Provincetown's not out of the question. Thanks for that link, outlaw. To the guys across the pond: For the next year at least I'm staying in the US. I don't want to put down roots anywhere for too long and leaving the country's too extreme on a lark. I've got a great car now and want to use it to move around when opportunity affords. Kim: Can I read the report? If so, email it to me. FB: I wouldn't be going to LA to do theater. But if I do theater anywhere I won't be producing so space rental's not an issue. I'm sick of the business side of it. That side's gone extremely well for me here and I've enjoyed it -- just ready to do the arty stuff without worrying about the bottom line. Not gonna hustle. NYC or LA will only happen if I'm invited. Drewdog: Sicker than sick of Texas (though I've loved my time here). And Austin's full of exes. (Almost all my exes live in Texas.) Don't wanna fall into old habits. red: Don't be surprised if I look you up. MacB: If I land in Toronto it won't be for the party aspect. I'm trying to remember I'm not in college anymore. But I would be happy to forget that on occasion to drink with a favorite BBS buddy. Sir Jack: As soon as the Frist thing blows over Manny and I are getting married. If it doesn't happen soon enough, we're doing it in Canada and JAG's performing the ceremony. pasox2: I'm a cheap interview. Let me know when you've got $4 plus tip for a couple of tall boys at Rudz and I'll be there. tigereye: I wouldn't move to Florida if the hookers were free but thanks for the well wishes. khan: Thanks for the warnings. I'm not trying to make it. Just trying to do some new things. I'm not trying to be a fish either, of any sort, and I'm not afeared of large bodies of water. Nomar: Jacqueline Vest is hot. Buck: Thanks, glad you liked it. Can't believe you didn't say hi. You owe me at least one beer for that. I prefer the cheap canned stuff though, so you'll get off easy. Just say when. B-Bob: One of my favorite actresses ever lives in SF now. I'll probably talk to her sometime this week. She's in rehearsal for something. When I find out what, I'll let you know and maybe you'll go see her. Portland is certainly a possibility. I loved living there for the two months I did and would do it again if the situation was right. Thanks again, to all, for the words of wisdom. Got two more months to decide so keep em coming.
Batman You got a subscription to Artsearch? Lots of good theater jobs all over the states. Just a thought...
OK...so I have to have a beer with Bats before Sept 1. Should be doable. We need to work on this and fast.
giddyup guess I'm used to the east village or Harlem. Hardly any Jazz Gay community is non-existent or underground No pro sports teams. Druham I understand has good drugs though.

Drewdog: Sicker than sick of Texas (though I've loved my time here).

that statement depresses me for some reason. but not as much as pasox2's statement

Maybe I just have the wanderlust right now, but I'm trapped for ever.

I guess coming from a small town in the Midwest to Houston was such a glorious experience for me that I just don't understand the native's being restless. I guess it's the small town boy in me who just loves Houston and just never really wanted anything else or liked the other cities...from a living-there perspective. it's the weather, friendliness, and food and fact I can walk to the farmer's market to buy any dried pepper my heart desires, and every mexican spice there is...and can bbq in January, while watching the Rockets. Man, Texas is the best country there is. Unless of course if you are an artist. good luck, man. you'll have friends everywhere you go, so what does it matter really where you go. I'd say go for the best offer, first, no matter where it is. Your creative energy may very well be at the highest it's ever been in years the moment you step into your next stop. My advice is: go to a place where you can be selfish with your time and energy...when is the last time you had that luxury?? cease it.
I'm thinking that exact thing, heypartner. That's what I'm up to here. But we'll definitely need to hang out for some hours before I go. JayZ: Gimme some reasons. I'm not opposed. speedball: It's amazing how much funnier you are on stage than on a message board. For those who saw Meat/BAR and don't know, he was Doug. The one that talked about ****ing. mc: My email romance says the exact same stuff about Chapel Hill. Otherwise she seems to like it. But she can't believe how white everyone is out there. I look at Art Search from time to time, but they wouldn't be posting stuff I wanted. I only want project driven gigs, directing or writing, plus stuff that pays better than theater does (but still not real work) to carry me through while I do that theater stuff. Ref: Tell me when. Buck: Same. Nomar: I wasn't even kidding. Very flirty, too.
Batman Jones, If you like the outdoors and unpredictable weather, come live in Colorado. I spend my summers here, and have a great time. Denver isn't as bad as people make it out to be. ***Skiing is awesome here. Cod
would that be due to the directing, or the writing?--oh yeah--the ACTING--BRILLIANT--GENIUS--THANK YOU!!
