Are you gonna stay in the U.S.? cause ive lived on the coast of central america before and it was pretty nice down there, especially in belize
Let me know if you come out to Raleigh-Durham or Chapel Hill. I'm about an hour from there.... oops, there he goes out west!
Good luck, Batman. I was going to say you had a resemblance to Neil Young, but Oski beat me to it. Austin could use you, but I hope you're happy wherever you end up... they'll be lucky to have you.
Come to the great White North, CC...the water's fine...well, this time of the year, the rest it's damned cold, but so's the beer, and it's better beer. There are numerous reasons I could advise Toronto; the culture, the free-thinking, the cleanliness and relatively low crime, the women, the restaurants, the fact that it's among the leading film locations in the world, the women, the seasons, the nearby Great Outdoors, the chance to meet with my wonderful self, the women, the music, theatre and art scene, the drugs are free, etc... But the number one reason: Maxim magazine voted Toronto the number One Party City in the world. 'Nuff said...
Actually, Batman and I resolved our differences, off-line. Good luck, Batman in whichever place you decide to go to. Atlanta is only 3 hours away from where I live.
If you are going to write, write in Europe. I grew up in London and The Hague and found both places to be eminating inspiration. There is something about English Fog and Dutch Women that puts pen to paper.
Good luck, BJ. Tell me some more about your decision some other time. It intrigues me. Maybe I just have the wanderlust right now, but I'm trapped for ever. Best wishes.
San Diego gets a nod from me. My trip out there last summer was great. The weather was beautiful and so was the city. The people were friendly. If I were looking to move for a life change I would probably go there. CK
Miami, great beaches, great girls, good sports, ..................and maybe even better ballot boxes by now. Good Luck Batman Jones, and remember, from one Gotham-ite to another. If you can make it in NY, you can make it anywhere.
I lived in LA for two and a half years, and I wouldn't recommend it to you. Yeah, the weather's great and all but the town gets to be a drag after a while -- especially if you're there for creative endeavors. It's hard to explain, but it wears you down when everyone on the Stairmaster is reading sides and everyone at the coffeeshop is working on a screenplay on their PowerBook. Something about it being better to be a big fish in a small pond, I guess. It kind of saps the will out of you for everyone else to be trying the same thing -- wanting to make it as an actor/writer/director/etc. But maybe that's just me (and a writer/director buddy of mine who moved from LA to DC the same time I moved from LA to Philly). Just my $0.02 Drop me a line if you have any other questions.
Seems like it was a good idea of whoever it was to lock that thread... Of course, evil as I am, I kept provoking more responses from you .
As someone who lived in LA for 12 years, I can now safely say that Mr. Mooch...you are out of your freaking mind! LA is a great place to live if you are making at least $100,000 a year. If you aren't, you are living like a college student, no matter how old you are. It is a beautiful place, but the price you pay for that beauty makes it completely unrealistic. Batman Jones...do yourself a favor and do not move to Los Angeles....unless of course you've received a $1 million advance from Paramount on your first screenplay!
Agree with the concept, but $100k is probably way too low. We were making several times that and it didn't even feel 'average' out there. I also lived there around 12 years.
Chapel Hill/Raleigh/Durham Funny you should mention it. We were thinking of this area a few months ago. Took a long weekend and drove down. Nice people, pretty area, but way too white bread! It seemed like a scene out of the stepford wives. And virtually no theater scene Weird We've been looking at San Diego and Sacramento.
Cross the Atlantic. I'm particularly proud of our capital city. London is great. Although you could do worse than live where SJC is at the moment. My favourite city. Barcelona. Of course, you're staying in the US, I assume?
$100K if you are single. More....much more if you are married and have children. I feel your pain, Cohen my brother. I am so freaking happy I don't live in Los Angeles anymore. Houston, despite it's shortcomings, is a much better place to live than Los Angeles. It may not be a tourist destination, but I got damn sick and tired of living in a tourist destination while I was in LA.
