i honestly havent read any reviews or know anything about the game except for the screens and some vids. i don't intend to buy the game so i'm not interested in it at all. the last time i played and BEAT a Mario game was SMB (the one on the SNES). what i do remember from the E3 previews and other stuff was that the game was evolutionary, not revolutionary. As I'm a sports game junkie, i obviously have no problem with that
Is Halo revolutionary? What about Gears of War or Resistance? In the end, they're all just FPSes. No re-inventing the wheel there. Why does a game have to be revolutionary to be good? Zelda: Twilight Princess was pretty much Ocarina of Time + waving your arms around, yet it garnered a perfect score from EGM. Besides, I think Mario has run out of dimensions. He's done 2D, 3D, and 2D + 3D (Super Paper Mario). I guess a time element could be added to make it 4D. Hmmmm, perhaps Mario could join Buckaroo Bonzai in the 8th dimension. Would that be revolutionary enough for you?
Gotta get Assassin's Creed, Mario Galaxy, and Mass Effect. After I get done with those games, I'll be sure to pick up Uncharted and COD4 as well. To the guy saying Mario Galaxy looks like Sunshine. I don't think so. Mario Galaxy is a lot more traditional Mario, and in essence a lot of critics are saying. Mario Galaxy to Mario 64 is what Mario 3 was to the original Mario Bros. That would be a great comparison, and quite frankly would make Mario Galaxy one of the best games ever if true!
thats hilarious. BUt I will be Mr. Gay when im enjoying this mario...and im using the word "gay" as in, bright and pleasant; promoting a feeling of cheer. That boxart could have been tampered with, but still its pretty funny. painfully last gen? you do understand what the Wii is...right? its hardware can only do so much. But i thought it's looked pretty crisp...plus, you are basing your opinions on a few short clips of what was an unfinished project. Hardly fair. a rehash of other marios....well isnt that the great thing about mario? It is familiar in a certain way? It will have familiar qualities, of course. Did that make metroid 3 any less kick ass? no. Its like calling all FPS rehashes of wolfenstein or doom. Personally, i liked mario sunshine but to each his own. It was a fun game. good controls, good graphics. Somewhere a long the way the "fun" factor has been lost in games. Dont know ifs it b/c of people getting older and more dull or just overly critical or whatever, but games that put a smile on peoples faces are becoming fewer and far between. People seem to want the "WOW" factor instead. RE: umbrella chronicles...dang i still need to finish RE4. I am probably 1hr away but i havent touched it since August. {insert joke here...I havent touched my wii since August}
No, Halo and Gears of Wars aren't revolutionary...but they're NEW at least. Despite the Halo sequels being very similar...at least there's a progression there. Stories move forward. (But I'm not a fan of FPS in general for the most part, and find that they get kinda boring) Zelda and Mario have been retelling similar stories for two decades now. And their gameplay mechanics have stayed the same for ten years. I think ultimately that's why I was so disappointed with Sunshine...I was expecting something new and fresh...and it ended up feeling like an add on to the 64 game. But like I said, I'll still give the "Mario 64: Arm Moving Expansion Pack" a try. The only game I'm really looking forward to on the Wii is the new Smash Bros.
If you're not a huge FPS guy and you've already got one in your collection...just pass on it....or...RENT it for 6 bucks and decide for yourself.
You'll know pretty quickly if you like it. It tosses you from a training mission into a mission before the credits even roll. So far, I think it looks and plays great. I have the PS3 version.
yeah don't get me wrong, I got the game yesterday during lunch and I already finished the SP campaign... and the game is freakin SICK. incredibly badass but if you don't ever like FPSes, I was just letting you know it's a straightforward linear FPS
How can you say that Mario Galaxy is a rehash in one breath and then turn around and say you're looking forward to SSBB in another? Geez, talk about rehashes. The difference between Mario 64 and Mario Galaxy > the difference between Smash Bros and Smash Bros Brawl.
Well, I recognize how you see hypocrisy there... I guess I just consider fighting games (and FPS on a different level) a different animal than a 3-d platformer or adventure game. It's more of a social/group thing, like alot of Wii games are actually...it's a party game. I expect more from Mario or Zelda, I suppose... Where's the innovation? Where's the wow factor? It doesn't have to be something graphically, it just has to be something...and I know, I know, I haven't played it yet...but I'd still like to see something... It just seems as a whole, Nintendo's flagship characters/games haven't really progressed as I thought they would have. Maybe that's the problem...I grew up, and they didn't. Maybe I'm just too old to get satisfaction by running around as a fat, silent plumber who fights turtles and rescues princesses.
The Wii is just relying on the fact that you can wiggle the controller around and make things happen. Who cares if the game sucks! You CAN WIGGLE THE CONTROL AND STUFF!! WOW... HOW COOL.
Each "planet" has its own gravitational field, which affects movement and stuff. That's kind of cool. (Hey, you asked for something.)
for the record, i have a Wii and 360 and getting a PS3 soon as I upgrade to a 1080P TV. I also spend 95% of my tiem on my 360 right now. having said that... The PS3 and the 360 is just relying on the fact that you can look at shiny new graphics and watch and download tv shows. Who cares if the game sucks! YOU CAN SIT THERE AND LOOK AT THE SHINY NEW GRAPHICS!! WOW... HOW COOL
Well seeing as how I haven't played very many crappy games on the 360, (I research games before buying) I can't really agree. The Wii relies on the wii-mote, while the 360 and PS3 do not lean on something like motion sensing controllers. A game is a game, crappy or not, but to try to lure me with motion sensing controllers is just cheap. I have played the Wii a couple of times and while I consider myself a "hardcore" gamer, I have no interest in buying it at all. It just seems like overkill to have to move around a whole lot without any real payoff. Wow I moved my hand like I was turning a key, and the hand on the screen really did turn the key. Woopty doo. Anyway 360 and PS3 0wn, the wii...not so much. GIVE ME GAMES! not mini-games that keep me wiggling the damn remote around.
