I would draft Novak over Gay today......cause it means nothing to say it.....cause....well....Novak is on our team. DD
Whats unbelievable is that you associate Novaks limited role as a spot up shooter in preseason and deciding he will be better than Gay. You seem to forget a few things about Novak. His D His Team D His D His Team D Novak will be lucky to see 10 mins a game. Gay has the potential to do it on both ends. Its no question who you take. Its crazy how some people get over every new Rocket drafted late every year. This has Langhi/Nachbar all over it.
I was never sold on Gay and I knew nothing about Novak before the draft. So, based on what I know now and the fit for THIS team, it's Novak.
Except that Langhi/Nachbar didn't quite show the promise during their first games with the Rockets Novak did...and they didn't have one of the franchise players saying that they were the best shooters he has ever played with... .
While Gay may have been the more popular pick from a long-term standpoint, Novak fits this team better than he would have. Guys who can slash, dunk and are athletic come a dime a dozen nowadays. Pure shooters are a rarity in the league. When I think of pure shooters in today's game, I think Ray Allen, Stojakovic and Kyle Korver. When I think of athletic wing phenoms? Hmmm, Josh Smith, j.r. smith, andre iguodala, Gerald Green, etc, etc. I was never upset with trading Gay because that night, we drafted two players who would make an immediate impact on our team. What more could you ask from your front office, especially since our window to win a title is within the next 5 years or so, and Gay would have never seen adequate minutes behind McGrady or Head (whom I also think fits this team better than Gay would have).
This is a stupid question, and I am deeply depressed by the homerism we show cause Novak is winning the poll.
Well Mr. Pure, I guess you would criticize these "homers" who only did what they were asked... buy time for General Sam to win the championship... just like Novak will do his best to create spacing for Tmac and Yao so that they may win the championship. Rudy Gay would have never been in a John Wayne movie while you can easily see Novak cast as a tall, gangly sharpshooter standing up for all that's good about Texas. 'Nuff said.
Head-to-head January 3, 2006 Code: MIN FG-A FT-A 3PM-A PTS REB PF STL TO AST Novak 37 12-20 11-11 6-13 41 16 1 2 2 2 Gay 29 3-12 2-2 0-3 8 7 5! 1 5 5 Total PWNAGE 'nuff said on a more serious note, what Rockets111 just said EDIT: Damn rimrocker, that's a big badass pic.
And it seems Rudy had a Steve Novak flashback tonight... 3 for 12 for 8 pts again in a loss. Talented kid, but far from ready.
This poll is ridiculous. Either we on Clutchfans are WAY too big fan of any Rockets player or just straight dumb. Anybody in their right mind would take Rudy Gay in the 2nd round. If you manage to find Rudy Gay in the 2nd Round and don't take him just assume that those are all your blessings in life that you fully wasted. Gay is a straight STUD. Even if it is just potential right now... If you guys wouldn't take the #8 pick in this years draft at the #32 spot. There is something SERIOUSLY wrong with you.
You know, just because his name is Gay, don't mean he is gay... Oh, wait a sec, he's black... Gotcha, never mind...
