The difference is that I think a schedule with 5 super-teams and 5 scrubs is more difficult than a schedule with 10 middle-of-the-road teams. The BCS (and probably many other people) disagrees with me. Yes. One may also argue playing consistently well is not easier than getting up 2 or 3 times for the big game and catching some luck there and winning out.
keeley, Sorry for getting carried away. Once I get started on college football, I find it hard to stop. Hopefully, things will work out where there is not a huge mess at the end of the season. I have to admit that I am jealous of Notre Dame getting Willingham. If you are a fan or alumni of the Irish, you have to be giddy about the future.
AP poll is out... Notre Dame moves up to number 4. That should be enough to jump them past Miami in the BCS tomorrow.
Iowa State has the toughest schedule in the nation. OU's isn't too shabby either, though playing 2 of the bottom 10 hurts(Tulsa and UTEP).... Alabama- #12 Texas- #7 Iowa State- #22 Colorado- #13 Texas A&M- top 30 or so Texas Tech- top 40 or so Now is Notre Dame's schedule REALLY that much better, if at all?
Mduke, I wrote this before I saw your post--I agree. If OU and Miami win out they will be in the BCS unless something really strange happens (like both VT loses to someone else first and USC runs the table going into that game). ND schedule is going to go in a serious dip the next 3 weeks. The interesting thing would be if ND and Vtech win out what happens? They do have a few common opponents nuetralizing things out, it might come down to how teams like LSU, A&M, Marshall, Michigan, FSU, Maryland & USC finish--I think they would really have to come out the right way for ND to overtake VTs higher poll ranking plus a big bonus for beating around the 4th highest rank team (what I assume Miami would be). I would normally feel sorry for undefeated teams not getting a chance at the NC--but ND or Ohio State would get no tear from me. Doesn't mean I can't recognize both teams have superb defenses with a few explosive skill position players mixed in (a formula to have a very good college football team even if they are not quite "great"). ND's schedule is tough, but nothing special. They have beaten no top 10 teams, and only two top 25 teams--a two loss Michigan team (#12) and a three loss FSU team (#20). ND has played lots of decent to solid teams, but nobody very, very good let alone great. Compare that to the Sooners. They have beaten a 1-loss Texas team (#7), a two loss Bama team (#12 in AP, unraked in UPI because of probation), and Iowa State (#23). They also have #12 CO left, and then another game with CO or likely KSU (#14). I think poor ISU has the worst schedule period. They had road games at #2 OU, #7 Texas, and #10 Iowa, plus games at CU and at KSU left. My lord, 5 games with top 15 teams all away from home. And we are even getting at other games against quality opponents like FSU, Nebraska, Texas T, & Missou. To think for Iowa State playing Nebraska in hindsight is one of their more winnable games, just brutal. To tell everyone the truth though, there is a lot of football left. Miami, OU, Vtech, ND, OSU, Georgia-any of them have games they could lose and I would be surprised if more than 2 of them run the table going into New Years. In fact ANY of the top 6 teams except Miami could lose next week if they don't bring their A game--November is the season for spoilers and the pressure is squarely on the front runners.
Well the "media machine" didn't have ND ranked ahead of OU in the preseason -- not even close. ND has had a tougher schedule than OU. Tyrone has also resurrected ND's program. He is amazing and I will be rooting for him the rest of the way.
You know, I was about to disect this error before I realized I'm sick to ****ing death of comparing schedules. Assuming we have any interest in a "fair" outcome, we have to have a playoff. It would be absolute bull**** if OU, Miami, Ohio State or Notre Dame survived their schedules unbeaten and didn't get a chance to play for the national championship. Georgia and Virginia Tech suck ass, so I don't care about them.
I hate to even think about this but, I can see Ty going to the NFL in the not too distant future. No idea what his contract is like at ND, but I see several NFL teams knocking on his door.
Yea, if it did, it would have prevented you from having kidrock say that he could donate sperm when montgo was talking about getting donations for the tipjar. Guess I'm an ******* for bringing that up, hey kidrock?
Great, do I have to close this ****ing thread too? Manny: lighten up. Don't take the argument from thread to thread.
Possibly. Especially if the NFL and its teams continue to receive heat about not hiring more black coaches. The Redskins defensive coordinator, whose name I forget, probably won't get a HC job anytime soon...
Marvin Lewis is the Redskins defensive coordinator, and he should have had a head coaching job by now.
For what reason? He did have the best talent on defense with Bal. And he has some above average talent with Was, yet Was is struggling.
Well, you are right that Washington is struggling, but he can only call the plays on defense...sooner or later, someone on that defense is got to step up and make a play. But how does someone like Mike Tice or Marty Mohringweg get a head coaching job over Marvin Lewis? Of course, this talk was more prevalent after the Ravens winning the Super Bowl, but I still think that Marvin would do a better job than Tice or Mohringweg.
Well, I never though much about Mohrningweg or Tice before. Lewis definitely should have been hired before them, if that's how you look at it. I think more college coaches need to be given a chance. Or if in doubt, just hire one of the 2034920484389 Bill Walsh or Buddy Ryan disciples.
