I shattered the face on my original iPhone two months ago (dropped it on a tile floor), looked briefly at Blackberries at the AT&T store, and bought an iPhone 3G. This one is even better than the last, except for battery life (which can be fixed by turning 3G off). My shattered face iPhone still worked, so nothing surprises me.

If you turn 3G off, don't you basically have the original iPhone? :D

Hmm... I just realized it does this - I usually look at texts as I get them, but I can see how that can be annoying if you're in a meeting or speaking or something. Let me know if you find anything - I don't have an obvious answer.

From searching around, it appears you can't change this. But some people are saying that it only reminds you once after about 5 minutes and that's it. I don't know if it'll keep reminding you every 5 minutes for every text you get, but... I only tested to see if it reminded you once.

Mine does this to me as well, but it hasn't really bothered me yet. In fact, I kind of like it sometimes because if I get a text and can't immediately look at it, it helps remind me that I got one later on. If I ignore the alert and get out of a meeting or something, I might forget about it.

But I will be interested to hear of any solutions as well.

I dropped mine on the I-45 going over 100mph and it no longer works. Count me unimpressed!

only reminds you once every so often for all texts.. not once for each. However, it felt like longer than 5 minutes when it happened to me on 2 diff occasions..

Actually it made no sense, but thanks for keeping with that theme.

Same old song... look, dude was impressed with the quality of his apple product and told the story, is that so wrong?

At the risk of taking the troll bait:

What is this generality? Actually, they got AT&T to subsidize the phones to lower the price point, but I'm sure they try to find ways to make the phones cheaper and more accessible, while still providing readily [sic] support to the customer base. My experience has been good in this regard.

Huh? I don't think apple has come close to the record set by Microsoft in this regard. This attempted point just doesn't hold much water, and really doesn't make sense the way it is poised anyway.

    Is that a fact?

I disagree (to a certain extent), with a nod toward the part that has merit. After the first firmware release (I have an original 8gb) I did get some lag in my keyboard performance, but the next release fixed that. Otherwise, I've had no extra trouble with any of their releases, and love the new features, namely the app store which in itself isn't buggy, though you might argue that letting a bunch of third party apps on the phones can cause issues. Mine is quite stable, personally. See, I have one. This is what I base my point upon.

As for the rest of it, I've seen that escalation before, and won't be trolled into it. At the very least, your points on security, reasons for using x86 and reasoning of compatibility are debatable issues... at the extreme, misguided and/or misleading.

You can always count on PdH to bag on apple and their products... why I just don't know. Rest assured, anyone who posts something about liking their apple product will hear from him about what's wrong with Apple and why they shouldn't.... and then to tell you he's giving facts and not hating... 3...2...1... wait for it.

I wouldn't have even spent the time responding to his post. The amount of time and effort he spent to concoct that was pretty funny though. If that post didn't scream 'trying too hard' I don't know what does. Just like Apple fan boys will try to convince themselves that every Apple move has been genius, pizza will convince himself that everything Apple does is wrong. If I didn't see his blog, I'd picture a 15 year old who also participates in console debates.

God forbid we see the merits of different products.

if you're experiencing slow down on your iphone in terms of keyboard or switching between apps etc then your problem is probably either...

    1) not enough free space - try freeing up some memory (about a gig at least)

    2) restore it - usually fixes any quirks or bugs

    3) do a hard reset at least once a week - hold the sleep and home button at the same time
