generally agree, but it seems increasingly that at least in terms of tiers, there seems to be a fair degree of accuracy in mock drafts. What big suprises were there last year - Balkman's really it. If there isn't a single mock draft that has him going first round, chances are he probably won't. For someone of his talent level (meaning nothing jumps out at you as to how he'll transition to the NBA), in a draft as deep as this apparently is, I'd be more concerned about value if he was who I was targeting, and if you end up trading down to low...oh well, take a flyer on someone else. Just my opinion, but I think the #26 pick in this draft should be able to get you more than Glen Davis' potential, whether that's packaging it to move up, or to move down and grab an extra pick and get out of a guaranteed contract, or whatever...
its a real shame b/c paul millsaps is the exact type of guy needed and he could fill that PF role for years to come...but we have novak
It was the Milwaukee Bucks that did that horrendous deal. And it was even worse than just a straight-up trade. The Mavericks took Tractor Traylor at #6 for the Bucks, then traded him to Milwaukee in exchange for the #9 pick (Dirk Nowitzki) AND the #17 pick (Pat Garrity). Hell, Garrity has even had a better career than Traylor.
The only reason Hayes is out there is because of his defense. His team defense is as good as there is, an his man to man is great, just hampered by his lack of size. Maybe you meant to say that he can't be any worse of a scorer than Hayes, because that is certainly true.
The guy has the bulk of two guys. He would set AMAZING screens for Tmac and Yao. Or imagine a double screen set by Davis and Yao. I hate to be whoever's trapped in the middle about the get squished into a pancake.
lets not forget an "OLD" charles barkley average 13.5 Boards / game for the Rockets. Also, i don't remember anyone else in a Rockets uniform getting 33 rebounds in a game.
Really??? They're still going strong up here in Dallas. See what I mean? The mere thought of those two getting together has put all of the Krispy Kremes in Houston out of business!
As far as tiering goes ... I think that is much more useful in NFL mocks than it is in the NBA. The NBA is more about finding someone who will contribute. The vast majority of players in the draft will not contribute. If the rockets have someone there at 26 that they feel strongly about, then they would be fools to try and play it cute and move down if they have any doubts at all about their availability later on. Ideally, I agree with what you are saying. But I think they need to value the players more than the draft position, unless they truly do feel that all the players from 20-45 or whatever are interchangeable like Morey said, which I think is more smoke than truth.
I don't think Big Baby is a good fit. We need a strong rebounder who can run the floor. Big Baby is NOT a strong rebounder and he's not good a running the floor. And, at his build, he's just gonna get fatter. He'll end up being a fat overweight player with a short career in the NBA
I think we can keep #26 pick and make run for Big Baby in the second round. All we need to do is trade for a pick in the mid to high 30s, only problem is the deal that is a rumor now....is not what all that great trading V-Span to the Mavs. Even though he might be bust, he could turn out to be a great addition or decent player, while we might not get players we supposedly want to draft. I rather trade J-Lucas III or Alston with next years 2nd for this year's 2nd and another player.
I've said all along that Big Baby is the prototypical Adelman player. He's smart. He's got great court vision, and he's a great passer. He runs the court well. He shoots well enough to keep the defense honest. He doesn't play a lick of defense. He wouldn't be a great player in many systems, but I think he'd be the perfect player to be the high post pivot that Adelman wants.
He's not a great rebounder, but he's not bad. He's great at running the floor. He really excels on the break. Heck, he played point guard at over 300 pounds in high school.
Does Big Baby have a outside jumper? because he shot 1.7 three point attempts a game. He only made 35% of them, though.
his outside j is respectable. his 3 point shot is not great, but he is capable of hitting them...from the college range.
Just for info on his height issue, HoopsHype reported that he measured out at 6-7 3/4 barefoot (over 6-9 in shoes) in 2 of his workouts so far. So he actually is 6-9 by NBA standards. They also said he weighed in at 298 in his workouts. For comparisons sake, Chuck Hayes came in at 6-5 1/2 barefoot, 6-6 3/4 in shoes and 242 pounds in his pre-draft listings. So he's actually over 2 inches taller than Hayes, but the weight is a big, big concern. He's basically Oliver Miller size when he's not dieting.
