Come on, the Spurs have been regular season kings or runners up for a couple of years or half a decade now.

    Balanced Offense and Defense

I hate them Spurs but this is the truth

You can't be serious. Practically every possession started off with a play. The plays they run are to maximize spacing for Harden/Lin/Parsons to slash or DH to work, or for our shooters to drop 3's. This is by DM's design, more than it is, Mchale's. I wish we'd run more p&r but I think Dwight's made it pretty clear he wants to post up.

It's funny you won't complain about lack of plays when everyone's shots are actually dropping as planned, or Harden/Lin's iso's aren't resulting in TO's and failed finishes. You can't just watch the Spurs and say "I want that!". We don't have veterans who've played together for a decade, we don't have a HOFer coach with 25+ years of experience, nor are we getting one anytime soon, unless Phil Jackson hooks up with Les Alexander's daughter.

The Rockets suck at defense, not offense. Not sure how signing Dwight for max money hasn't helped their defense (16th this year, same as last year), but that's where the problem is, not offense.

Sir Charles says jump shooting teams don't win it all. I think he's right. Now, we have a post player but he's only effective against some teams and penetrators that don't do so well with shot blockers and athletic defenders so there's more reliance on jump shooting and long-range jump shooting at that.

Well, this thread isn't about defense. I do agree the Spurs run a better defense. I don't agree they run a better offense. But more precisely, the Rockets and the Spurs offense aren't actually dissimilar.

The Rockets just have a more complex system than you can understand. Simple enough?

The only plays we run are PnR and Post Ups. McHale doesn't run anything complicated.

If Charles is right. Then the Rockets should do quite fine. We are currently 3rd in the NBA in points in the paint.

This. And with Morey's philosophy, even if we ran plays they'd result in the very same shots (3's and shots around the rim). It kind of sucks knowing that if we had a more structured offense and a consistent defense we'd be on the same level as the elite teams. But until we get those and someone who'll hold our players responsible... We'll just have to sit and watch some games where we look like a flawless team and games where we look like a flawed one.

I think the rockets do run plays, the players just don't run them right or refuse to run them half way through .

Nice... between Dwight and Harden, Dwight's our most consistent player on both ends... and Freak calls him out...

R&R = improvisation on the run
It's easy to stop when the defense is focused, like in this loss vs. OKC. Durant and Jackson run simple plays involving screens with great success. It's about practicing them over and over to make it work. Rockets do little screening, and not so effective when they do. That's because they do RNR, and no time to practice these fundamental sets with the personnel at hand.

i dont know if anybody else noticed but right before halftime, lin with to all the players and whispered into everybodys ear while shielding it from all the okc players while they were shooting free throws. im gonna assume it was a play call. after the okc player shot the free throw, we came down and got the ball to parsons rolling off a high double screen from dwight, that got him wide open for a 3.

i definitely dont mind our offensive efficiency atm but you guys are doing yourself an injustice by not admitting set plays would be effective and useful. especially when harden cant really create and does his little one trick pony dribbling show, then slings it to parsons or lin with 2 secs left so they can jack up a contested three.

If it's so easy to stop, why did OKC not held the Rockets to the 80s in last year's playoffs? That team had a hobbled Harden, no Dwight, no Lin, and we scored over 100 in 4 out of 6 games.

No. R&R is easy to stop when players are gassed playing 30-40mpg in a 4-in-5 stretch. And that won't happen in the playoffs.

For a 3 point happy shooting tam, our big guy need to do a much better job at setting down screens for the shooters to roll off of to get better shots. We have no protection off the ball plays to help the shooters get better looks. It is a combination of bad coaching and having off the ball awareness.

The Rockets hardly run pick n roll... and set picks and screen forthe guards. while other team run picks n roll and set screen and picks for thier guards making the Rockets guard running chasing them around all games.

the Rockets offense is everyone standing around the 3's pointer line and pass the ball around and than go 1 on 1 . or shoot a 3 .

its a pick n roll league.
