Consistent outside shooter would make the Rockets very dangerous, and I mean consistent. Night in, night out, shooting in the mid-forties percentage wise. Not many of those around, especially those that are good at something else. I would like that player to be a PG and about 6' 5' and 225. AND, a back up center is a must. Then it is all about staying healthy. Several players will be gone, but Scola and Landry are keepers. A shame the trade deadline had passed, or I would have traded Rafer right after his amazing run, right before he turned back into Rafer. His stock was at an all time high; best time to sell. He is quite a "survivor." Not trying to be ugly, and he seems likeable personally, but his inconsistency really gets on my nerves. I hope not, but I would not be surprised to see him shoot 30% for the rest of the season.

I absolutely agree with this point. This is our biggest weakness regarding our perimeter play.

Watching the Warriors last night made that weakness stand out even more. We need to pick up an aggressive guard who can create his own lane to the basket. That will do wonders for our offense.

I like Childress but would prefer a player with more speed.

Exactly. And then we landed Cassel.

Well, Cassell his first two years wasn't exactly a world beater. But he was the perfect "spark off the bench" to complement Smith. A pg version of Scola/Landry, if you will.

I am REALLY hoping Brooks can be that player next year. If that's the case, we'll have more options in the offseason in terms of bringing in another impact player.

...if only it was that simple ;)

On a more serious note, if you need a solid unbiased opinion on Childress I can most certainly provide one. My buddy is a giant Hawks fan so i'm inevitably forced to watch nearly every Hawks game that doesn't coincide with an ongoing Rockets game.

Anyway, think of him as a poor man's Shawn Marion. He's not a star but he's one of those young, do-it-all type garbagemen/role players that any team would be lucky to have. His athleticism and length stand out and his fundamentals are solid. His jumper is a little funky looking but effective and he can shoot from anywhere on the floor. He plays his best close to the basket. Works the baseline well, crashes the boards and gets a ton of putbacks. Plays smart and doesn't make stupid mistakes.

I believe he's a restricted FA this summer. If that's the case, I doubt we would be able to get him since the most we can offer is the MLE -- which i'm sure the Hawks would match.

Although, the Hawks are in a bit of a pickle. They already have one max deal with Josh Smith due for a longterm deal this summer. Marvin Williams the year after. Point is you can't keep everybody. Maybe Childress is expendable for this reason? He's definitely a name to keep in mind.

That's a pretty good analysis of Childress. I watch everyone, but for some reason I watch the hawks a lot. When houston was getting rid of their #9 pick 2 yrs ago, I wanted the rox to trade it for him.

I just think he would fir perfectly within the offense. He has shot 223 ft in his limited time at 80%. In his limited 29mins he's 11ppg 5rebs and like 58%fg. If the rox can get that kind of efficient production behind shane and tracy, that would work. His tender is 4.5m, so maybe a sign ad trade for 5.5m which is jacksons contract fits in perfect.

The playoffs is when u really need a guy that can get his own shot. The system will work, but when the defense cranks up and the lanes are contested, somebody needs to be able to get to the rack and finish. Plus he's 24.

The premium backup for Yao is essential also. The backup needs to be equipped to play extended games in case yao goes down. That's why is mentioned Elson. He called himself Geico in Denver. He was insurance behind Camby,Nene, and Martin. Mihm would be a bad choice either, but I haven't check his contract.

Livingston would be a low risk high reward guy. He's shown flashes of greatness. He has great feel and decision making to go along with great height at the pg spot. He's never been fully healthy for a entire season and that injury was nasty. I would get a flier especially if the clipps don't extend him. There will be a lot of young free agents coming off their rookie deals this summer.

I predict two catastrophic injuries to the Rockets over the next two seasons, crushing all of our hopes. You have your bandwagon ... I have my meat wagon.

I like Childress but he is Battier with less aggressiveness. His release is too slow for him to be effective against scrambling defense. I want a guy that can stroke it quickly from distance.......like Mike Miller.......or J.J. Redick, come off the screen or off the move and pop the shot in.

we need a consistant shooter, not a streaky shooter. i'm tired of our streaky shooters. they win us games, they lose us games, and you don't win playoff series like that.

To a certain degree most guys are streaky shooters but we need guys who can score in our offense. Thats what makes teams dangerous.

It doesn't matter that Landry doesn't have much of a post game because tmac will find him open. We know tmac and yao will get theirs, our PF's are doing a pretty good job of finding seems, so we need our PG's to make open 3's and penetrate, often. We also need our SF's to do the same.

I really don't see why we even need a pg. Tracy runs the show anyways, we tend to play better with Brooks or Jackson on the court with tmac because they can't take of no one guarding them. Alot of time Rafer shoots and misses or just holds the ball because he isn't really good offensively.

I think if Brooks can get better spotting up and Shane can look for his shot more often we should be fine.
