Ridding the team of Mo Taylor and Derek Anderson means JVG handprint was all over the personnel? Those two moves were the reason why the Rockets rosters were flawed?
People want to blame JVG for the roster... then out of all the moves I asked about JVG was the initiator on two of them: Ridding the team of Taylor and Derek Anderson. Everything else was someone else's idea or a collective decision. Now.. only if JVG never had those wild ideals to ship off Mo and DA we would have beat Utah? Is that what people are driving at? All coaches have some say in personnel, but from what denniscd describes, JVG's role was limited. The front office guys were the ones doing front office things.
First of all, I am not sure that sure that "denniscd" has any inside scoop.....second, I understand what you meant now.
Dont forget JVG also nullified the midseason Howard for James trade. He also was heavily involved in shipping out James for Alston originally, realized his mistake, then re-made the SAME mistake last season. He was also responsible for bringing in Charlie Ward. All the good trades were mainly the FO.
Would the Rockets have been better off with a PF rotation of Chuck Hayes and... who? Linus Kleiza? Could Kleiza have lasted 10 minues a game against Boozer? Would the team have even gotten to Game 7? Charlie Ward was a $2 million a year deal, signed only because the entire starting backcourt got traded for TMac. He was washed out, but at least he didn't tie up the salary cap like the assholes the previous regime got in. Charlie Ward was not the reason why they didn't win championships.
That is why nobody posts inside info. Because everytime someone does, people say stupid crap like this. What is the point of posting it?
then bring up sura signing by cd...played 60 games or so on a 3 year deal plus he ties up salary next year. the bottom line is this...you are in charge of your area...cd in charge of trades etc, jvg in charge of coaching, lindsey in charge of the draft etc...
I dont post stupid crap.....You should tell you little inside friend to not be a jerk and maybe people would listen......I always believed you.....
sostupid...i dont care if you listen...i post for the rocket fans who want to know how their organization works and what the people who work for it are really like...put me on your ignore list then and let the others read
I'm not a Van Gundy hater. I came around and supported him aGettingt the end. I really thought he would get a 3 year extension. I was surprised when he hesitated to make hisintentions know to the front office. While you are correct about talent problems from the previous regime-Van Gundy IMHO had a hand in many deals: Clarence Weatherspoon Hiring Patrick Ewing Ward Rod Strickland not trading Juwan for Mike James earlier Not trading Mo Taylor for PJ Browne Give Rudy a break though- most drafts were poor placed picks and some of his players did not pan out. Some did-like Othella Harrington, Kenny Thomas, Boki Nachbar, Sma Cassell, and others...... Given time- Van Gundy would have made more of his own mistakes-mostly in how he worked with people-I respect him, but he made some of the most stubborn decisions I have seen in pro sport There are others IMHO- but Van Gundy was very clever about distancing himself from front office moves to the media-I do not blame him - he wanted to focus on his team development. This is not a criticsm-as time goes on I appreciate more and more the depth Van Gundy has. He is a brilliant coach in many ways and a very dedicated worker. I'm happy about Adelman, but respect Van Gundy
Actually, we are all hungry for insider information. I understand the predicament of insiders like you. You don't want to "blow your cover." But being not fully open, you can't prove your authenticity. And you can't blame people for being skeptical. Anyone can claim to be insider. We need more evidence than just a claim. Therein lies the dilemma. That said, the reason denniscd gets crap is because of his crappy attitude, not because of skepticism. A little charming personality (like yours and Doc Rockets' and Yaomania's ) goes a long way to get people's ears.
hate my attitude but know this...we never could have traded mo taylor for pj brown...that is a myth that just wont go away.
oooooo...brocksniffer? sostupid? do me next! its witty rockets banter like this that leaves no doubt in my mind you truly are valuable cog in the rockets organizational machine two quick insider questions for you... 1) what kind've ball racks do the rockets use during practice/games? 2) what brand of urinal cakes did cd prefer you buy for him?
A couple of thoughts: 1. Most of the moves you listed were either traditional coach stuff (hiring assistant coaches) or 10-day contract type moves with minimal financial impact. It's clear, for example he didn't have Rudy's power to sign any Cato-size deals. I really don't think they were bad or hurt the francise. Sure, the threw Ewing a bone, but he also had plenty of serious assistants like Tom Thibodeau, Steve Clifford, etc and you really weren't gonna acquire much better talent with what they gave in trade or salary than Spoon, Strickland, Mark Jackson, Oakley etc. On the bigger stuff, Feigan said more than once that Van Gundy had wanted Les to go over the luxury tax limit but Les would not budge. 2. I don't deny that, had JVG been given Rudy's power, he might have made mistakes just like Rudy did. Coaches tend to be short sighted when they have total power (see Pat Riley.) The solution wasn't to give JVG (or Adelman or any other coach) more power, but to hiring competent front office people. From denniscd's list, it appears to that the moves initiated by Morey and Dennis Lindsey were the once that made the most sense (at least to me) and CD, Rudy, and Les were the ones responsible for many of the mistakes, at least in hindsight. Dennis Lindsey is gone now, but I'm hopeful about what Morey can do. He may not be telegentic or a polished public speaker, but his methods, at the very least, seems to prevent the mistake the team made in the past.
If it was a myth it was persistent- that the reason it was refused was because New Orlean wanted our Number 1 pick to go with it. They talked about it on Radio 610 and it was discussed here. Many here criticized the deal because we would be giving up that #1 pick and Brown's contract was one more year than Howard's. Rich Lord talked about it as well as John Granato-he made the point we would have to give up something significant to get rid of Juwan's hefty contract..... Who are you man- are you for real? What about the weather forecast for his week? Should we plan to pave everyday?
Good points- I support Morey and think he can help us avoid financial mistakes-overpaying for players. I do not believe in having the coach having GM power to build the team on his own- Riley could not do it economically. sorry - I never knew Van Gundy wanted Les to go over the cap- from a basketball coaching perspective-it sure would have made it easier for us to get a 4. Agreed - none of JVG deals broke the bank.
Michael Dickerson was a nice -player IMHO-from Arizona? He was a starter in Vancouver after the trade to get Steve Francis. It's a shame Dickerson developed health problems and had to retire early. I would not include him in a list including Bryce Drew or Mirsad Turckan
