we're going to have to wait and see how he does in the next 2 games (against suns and clips) because he apparently but his troubles behind him for this all-star game. If he plays like that, then he won't be letting it affect him.

Granted he wont' get that many looks (that quickly), and the game will have some real d, but the effort is what's needed.

there was no doubt he was slumping before this personal crisis, and don't say that the "Great ones" never slumped.

Jordan's dad passed away, there was nothing to be done. Jordan didn't have to think of it right then. Though, yes, he was mentally strong through it.

T-Mac is not thinking of the dead ones right now, or at least that's not what's effecting him, it's the "combination of things in different places" that's really getting at him. Which could be his new son, or his daughter, or wife, mom, wahtever.

Now if he's put that behind him, then that's truly great.

oh what the hell, i thought his dad died then he won the championship. i was wrong. anyways...

so winning 7 of the last 8 isn't winning?

so what if our record is 22 - 31
    you all know why. injuries.

    what's our record with tmac?
    22-15

what's our record with yao and tmac?
    16-8 (16 - 7 at that point)

that's pretty damn good. (not to mention, other injuries)

that's a heartless thing to say since none of us know what's really up with him. that would be a heartless thing to say anyways because most of us believe he's not faking it. he has no reason to. even through the slump they were winning.

We can all speculate about what it might be and thingS like that.

For all the haters that are doubting TMAC, when he kicks it up a notch after the allstar break puts all things aside and gets the rockets into the postseason,

JUST BE READY TO KISS SOME ASS AND JUST BE GLAD ITS NOT A HAIRY DONKEY'S!!

During the game or pregame Craig Sager reported that someone is sick in his family.

And Tmac mentioned it again after the game......

So it is not like the reporters are rehashing stuff, Tmac is out there talking about it...sort of.

I wish he would just deal with his problems and keep them to himself.

He did retire, but then he came back and won on Father's day, remember him lying on the floor crying?

Have you ever seen what happens when famous people take time off without explaining it to anyone? Chappelle did that and the rumors were he was in a mental hospital in South Africa.

No he's not. The media keeps rehashing the same quote over and over again. He mentioned it a couple of times and boom, the media replays that quote a hundred times over.

What I dont get is the fact that everyone treats superstarts like super-humans. We celebrate them when they are able to overcome tragedy. Brett Farve played through the death of his dad I believe and his wife's cancer. Kobe played through the whole rape trial. All of us admired and cheered them for doing something that 99% of people could never do. We probably didn't have the will or mental strength to do something like that.

However, when a superstar doesn't do that, we spit on them and "call them out on it." We tell them to suck it up and compare them to the few that moved past it. We're holding T-Mac to an unfair and impractical standard that none of us can achieve. We're all human too you know. The guy has had some serious stuff but you cant trash him because he didn't meet your ridiculous expectations of a superstar basketball player.

That was years after the fact, though... not in the middle of it. It's a very different scenario when you've had years to deal with grief.

Exactly. It was three years after the death of his father.

What a p***y Michael Jordan was. And T-Mac.

Well, if one of his closest relatives is seriously sick, I am sure it will always become a distraction for him to play basketball all around the country, away from his loved one.

If any of you travels constantly in your work (e.g. consultant, sales, etc), you know that when your kid or wife gets seriously ill (e.g. cancer, etc), you want to be with them to accompany, no matter how much money you got paid for your profession.

you\'re comparing a bbs discussion to spitting on t-mac!?

there have been some over the top posts in this thread, but you just have to ignore those. as long as t-mac has been in the spotlight he should know that as soon as he mentions something like this it will become major news. as soon as it becomes news people are going to want to analyse what exactly it is that is causing him so much trouble.

Good thing i'm not a moderator, there would be some people banned over this thread right now. I'm furious reading some of this garbage. Probably the first time i've actually ever gotten angry over an internet message board.

Look, all I am saying is that if he needs time off....then TAKE IT....just don't continually make excuses for poor play in the media.

He sure played well in the All star game, and his back didn't look like it bothered him, did it?

If you are bothered, take the time you need to get right.

I want a healthy, happy Tmac too !

Some of the things here have really pissed me off personally but I think for the most part those posts have started to die off. I suppose the spit metaphor is a bit over the top but if you read some of the garbage posted earlier, it wasn't that far off.

As for what you said, there are two important things to note. 1) He mentioned this only a couple of times and the media kept repeating it. He was just answering a reporter's question. He hasn't missed a game or used it as an excuse after a game. The media just blew this out of proportion and in essence made this a bigger deal than it already was. 2) Even if you are correct in that T-Mac shouldve seen this coming, that doesn't make your response correct. Ok, it probably was inevitable that after he said he had problems that people were going to bash him and as you did "accuse him of feeling sorry for himself." But that doesn't make it right to respond that way. Like I've said twenty times earlier, we don't know all the facts so everyone needs to hush up and quit pretending like that they know the answer or can explain everything. You can't put all the onus on T-Mac and fail to acknowledge the fact that you are complicit in all of this.
