He got his voice heard. I doubt any authority figures would have listened to him.

So you have a problem with girls with long hair?

    Ah, didn't see this.

So, actually, it is about gender for you then.

I'm sure they are giving him his due respect now though.

I can learn from the book or a lecture. A good lecture helps me understand the material faster and might even get me motivated.

You pick and choose at my post, but you avoid the point of my post. Most schools will hire any teacher and they rapin' everybody out here.

He wasn't getting any respect before that. His message was clear, and I agree with him.

No, they won't... they have an interview process, and then they have test scores AND observations to make sure the good teachers stay with a job in their district.
No, but if you really want one, go ahead and be Mrs. Beat LA. :p
    Answered in #36.
EDIT: and now I see you saw my answer. Hair should not be a distraction. The majority of the girls with long hair don't have it at that length and if they do, they have it in a pony tail, held up with a rubber band, or some other way, not letting it get in their face.

I picked only the silliest parts, didn't want to hurt your feelings.

I struck it through because this isn't really a discussion worthy of moving, even though the points brought up would deserve to be addressed if this weren't the hangout.

We accept gays, why can't we accept a dude with long hair?

It's the hangout. Feelings don't get hurt here.

Not too much off topic, but has anyone seen Waiting on "Superman"? Pretty good documentary about the education system

I honestly don't see much incentive for teachers to work hard. No matter how hard they work their pay increase will remain at the same low levels. Their only incentive would be love for the job. It's a communist system.

oh, well you should have said he needed to do that, then, instead of making r****ded inferences about his intelligence or character based on his hair.

Except for SwoLy-D's. He cries when anyone dares to make a grammatical error. Or when a guy has long hair.

Not if he is a male, JayZ750.
You call having a discussion and answering people's questions "getting feelings hurt"?

Why does it matter if he doesn't cut his hair? What if he can't afford it? I'd understand your complaint if it were about the teacher. They're the only ones in the room getting paid.

So you think being gay is unacceptable?

Objectively bad kid in that books and a syllabus are all the real students need to learn and achieve. But he is only one out of the millions that are less xenopobic, hypocritical or exhaustively nostalgic than Gen-Xers and before, and are almost single-handedly rebuilding our information and communications industries and are going to college in record percentages.

That teacher should've stood up and debated that kid face to face.

And in don't nothing she basically proved his point.

Kudos to the kid, eloquence don't mean jack.

Enunciation and the courage to speak through is more important. Hope he keeps his attitude as he gains more knowledge, and we may have a leader yet.

There isn't a lot of incentive to go into the field in the first place as there are thousands of other non-specialized, but salaried professional jobs that college grads with a decent GPA could get if they were willing to move. And grad school is expensive but fairly ubiquitous, to say nothing of the requisite loans themselves. Unless everyone's rotating between affluent suburban publics, prep schools and urban jungles every two years, I don't know how you can call it communist.
