I would not give up that much immediately for a trade that would not put us over the hump. It's easy to be willing to throw in Scola, but putting in Lowry to get Gasol is just ridiculous. Lets make the Lakers way better, while barely improving our own team, why don't we?
is the thread starter a laker fan? cos if this deal happens, it will immediately make lakers big favourites to win it all next year. Pau lacks heart as can be seen many times or you could say he's very inconsistent and Scola + Lowry combine is all the heart u can get!! no way man!! i think lowry is the reason for our success when brooks was traded, he started playing with so much confidence and even got a triple double, im shocked u even suggest something like that without thinking how much crap ur gonna get for it
If Gasol was 27 yrs old then I would pull the trigger. Lakers would be delusional not to take that trade. Even if I'm reluctant to trade Dragic before the season starts (dude could be the next Lowry), he is just a back up; same for Budinger, he is a pseudo starter don't get confused, and those are a dime a dozen. As a gimmick, Why don't you throw Kobe in as well?
I'm being a realist here. Pau for Some cap relief and a first rounder. plus, the rights to yao ming's first baby boy, whenever he is born.
If Dwight starts demanding he wants to go to LA we could get Gasol in the Deal for cheap I'd imagine. I would much rather have Dwight of course but if he pulls a Melo we take what we can take . http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=44yh2hd We get a 7 footer, La gets there man and an upgrade at the point guard, Orlando gets young talent and rid of at least one of it's bad contracts plus imagine some picks in there, Indiana gets a needed SG and veteran leadership.
Replying to this silliness in this post (for whatever reason) - IF Gasol were traded by Lakes, look for him to be packaged with Bynum for Howard and maybe Bass + Hedo? Somesuch Orlando package back.
That one was a mistake I put another under it. Anyways Orlando will go all young I bet they only take Bynum and would package Gasol for young talent and picks. Look at their history of trades, they will go straight to rebuild when Dwight leaves.
How does this help us at the 5? Even if you want to use him as a 5 which I would not do the guy is in his 30's and and trading Lowry and a 1st round pick plus Luis is too much for a guy that will likely be irrelevant when the team is good again. He has not been very effective in the play-offs this year for sure and proved when he was at Memphis that he was not capable of being "The Man". He is not better than Luis on offense IMO, better on defense... yes. If Pau was a few years younger then I would consider this but the guy will be 31 in a couple of months. I would rather try to get one of the centers in the draft and add Damembert which would not impair our rebuilding.
If the Pau - unnamed teammate feud is so big and Phil is angry as ever at him, I even think that this deal could pass: Scola, T. Williams, fillers (Thabeet and Miller, perhaps) for Gasol We get one of the best big man in the NBA and the Lakers get a nice replacement in Scola, address their SF need with T-Will and get two big men (Ratliff and J. Smith are retiring).
Funny thing is what i have preached about Scola all year. His production dollar for dollar is just unreal. He gets you the sam pph and almost the smae amount of rebounding for $10M a year less. now you have to give away other contributing players just to make salaries match. Pass.
