Big picture...yes. Last game of the season, one or two draft slots depending on a win or loss, you have to think long term what's better for the team. It could end up being the difference between a Akeem/Bowie or a Lebron/Darko or a Roy/Battier + Swift.

I'm sure the 34th win that season served to improve this team far more than having Brandon Roy on it for the next decade.

I am so sick of this arguement. If you are not playing to win every game then you should not be in the freaking league.

Do your homework before you make these kinds of statements. It's pretty easy to look up

    Denver Game Box Score

No Yao, No Tmac, everyone else played...the entire roster

might as well just blame howard then, since he exploded for 31 pts.

thats the most r****ded reason yet...and you've had some good ones. :D

by the same reasoning they might have well tanked the season to get lebron. They might as well lose eery game this year because they certainly arent winning a championship. Texans might have well lost every game once out of the playoff picture..etc.etc.

Hey, he should have benched offensive powerhouses like Keith Bogans and Deke, who played the majority of the game.

Kleiza at PF? JVG would find a way to win with Clarence Weatherspoon at PF. Adelman would find a way to make Kleiza look like CBA fodder.

I understand sitting stars and developing rookies in meaningless games, but I always want the players and coach on the floor to do their best to win every single game. First of all, it's bad sportsmanship to do otherwise, and second, the fans deserve better. I still think that the Texans are cursed for what Kris Brown did in 2005.

Yes what a dumb thread...just cuz kleiza had a 41 pt game you suddenly want him?!? that dude sucks and cannot even finish layups...Crappy Rockets fans are you, wagon band fans are you.

And to the other threads out there...i'd rather have a 70% tmac out there running the show than a 95% alston...i'm sure tmac can still shoot and pass without having to "explode" not like he does that much anyways

    5 stars thread.

Players always try to play well, pad their stats, and get a better contact later. Particularly, when you have players such as Howard, Rafer, and Head, they will not look the big picture for you. It is the coach's job to make a clear order of playing loose. JVG just didn't want to (and hadn't) do any favor for Rox, in the last 4 years.

:D then blaming him for not trading for him...meanwhile making the excuse that jvg didnt even want luther head. AMazing, jvg is all powerful and powerless all at once, when it comes to personnel

Winning that Denver game kind of sucked .. but let's be real. It's not like JVG was playing his stars in a fruitless effort to win every game. We had a depleted roster as is. He just expected guys to play well and hard.

Remember what happened at the end of the game? Denver was purposely tanking, and it was clear as day. They wanted to lose, because that year the 5th seed was more favorable than the 6th seed (Clippers vs Spurs matchup, if I remember). At the end, Karl purposely kept Carmelo Anthony out of the game, even though he had a chance to win.

I'd rather blame the opposition's tanking on costing us Roy rather than JVG expecting his guys to play hard. It's not like the "veteran" rotation he was going with gave us a much better shot of winning games.

good point. and we all know that loser mentality has served denver well :)

plus, its not like the rockets were winning multiple games at the end of the season. they finished the season 2-8.

I wonder why he doesnt blame yao ming for going off against GS and beating them. Or why yao even played at the end of february when it was clear the rockets were out of it.

Karl can make this order, so can JVG. It is a competition of loss. The real problem is that JVG didn't want to make this order. JVG didn't want to do ROX a favor.
