Not a complaint but an observation: Harden is still playing analytic ball aka MoreyBall

    What is "good"?

A player doesn't have to be elite from mid range to take it. A wide open mid range shot is a gimmie for most NBA players. Taking what the defense gives you maximizes points

Understand we have issues during 7 game series where teams adjust and just defend the paint and run off shooters from the three point line and letting any of our players even Harden just free reign in the mid range.

Our style of offense will generate a lot of points in the regular season. What it will also do is make us more predictable and also make us bad during clutch moments in games as the mid range is an area superstars often operate for last possession plays.

This team is like a NFL team that gets a crap ton of offensive yards but sucks in the red zone and always gets fg attempts instead of tds. This team sucks in close game situations down the stretch because we limit our selves to scoring from two areas of the court.

The lack of midrange has never been a reason we havent won a championship. If not, the whole league would never have copied our shot selection.

The whole league doesn't go as far as us as we still shoot a crap ton more threes than other teams still except maybe the Bucks and guess what... They also have severe drop off in offensive production more than other playoff teams from regular season to post season like the Rockets.

It's not a style that is going to win you a ring. You need to have some versatility. Because in closing moments of a game, you can't rely on ts% analytics as those type of stats are more viable with a large sample size of a lot of possessions. When the game is close with a few possessions remaining the best available shot is the best shot regardless of where it is on the half court.

They had a drop off because Giannis cant shoot and Giannis. Mid range would not have won us anything.

That style of play is what got us so close in the first place. Analytics tells you to take the highest value shot in the clutch. But more often than not, mid range will not win you games by and large. You should only take them in the clutch, other than that they are wasteful possessions for players who are not really really good at them.

Our style of play in terms of 3>2 didn't get us to 7 games vs the Warriors. It was our switch defense and forcing GSW to play iso ball rather than their "beautiful" motion offense. Hence why we had multiple under 100 pt games that series for two teams that average a **** ton of points in the reg season. The team shot absolute crap from three.

Lol look at how their beautiful motion offense looks without really good players to run it trash. And offensive effciency goes down against good defensive teams which Golden State was.

You actually are on point here. If you announce to the world that you’re not under any circumstances going to take a midrange shot , then it makes you easier to prepare for in a series. The Lakers ran them off the line and had a rim protecting big waiting. So I get mixing in a few go to plays to generate a mid range shot.

We didn’t have Wall or Eric. Ben and boogie were out too. Even with a short handed roster they moved the ball. Harden tried to get us closer after he made a couple mistakes that gave the momentum to them. But he had to do some iso in order for us to be close at the end.
To bad he turned the ball over with a few seconds left. That would have been a wide open three. Looks like Harden still a bit rusty. He could have done a floater there too but instead tried a pass. Which would have been good if it didn’t get deflected

3S are better than 2s so if you mean threes yes those are still good shots when they are open 3s.

Welcome to the BBS, where the greatest offensive force of the century and possibly the history of the modern NBA, who revolutionized the way the game is played, gets advice from Jimbo378325 from Pearlandadena Park on his T-Mobile sidekick on how to be a gooder scorer

In fairness - Philadelphia or Boston is not much better in this regard.

30 pts on 22 shots to be exact.

14 points came off his 16 Free throws.

McCollum in comparison scored 44 pts with 2 FTs.

It's insane how both heated up in the 2nd half.

Are you under the impression that we didn't continue to get a ton of open threes in last year's playoffs? If so you are completely wrong. If not, what are you talking about?

Nobody ran our shooters off the three point line.

Every team in the league shoots many more threes and shoots few midrange than ever before and teams are more efficient than ever.

Who is the teams in the league shooting all the midrange shots so efficiently?

Harden is a terrible midrange shooter. Wall is equally bad.

"Threes and layups" is probably ingrained into his brain, by now. Can't suddenly reinvent your way of playing basketball, especially since he's been doing the same thing for about 4 years.

Pretty sure @ThatBoyNick was making a point on efficiency, in which the value of FTs are at a premium.

Harden got 44 off 22 shots (14-16 FTs) while McCollum got 44 off 30 shots (9-16 FTs). Despite the same point total, Harden was way more efficient.

Plus, 17 ASTs vs 8 ASTs.
