Being judgmental behind an anonymous keyboard when others don't know your physical deficiencies, more like a right to be a dipsh1t...

Just saw on the same New York Times source (graphic) that the average waist measurement for American women is 36.4. I came in at 36.0. I tend to gain all over more than just in the stomach, and would still like to lose a good deal, but it makes me feel a little better.

Some people get more results from diet, and some from exercise. It depends on your individual makeup and metabolism. They both work, and some combination is best; for me, I feel happier and healthier using exercise as the main way to lose weight. It is hard to find the time sometimes. I have to go to class, go to work, practice my classical piano and other music, help my friends and fiance, and then work out.

True statements about white bread and sugar... learning to cook healthier at home, but it's hard to find convenience foods that are not made with white flour or other simple carbs. I have learned to like, or at least eat, multigrain crackers, brown rice, "birdseed bread", and other things I thought I never would. A lot of you have lucky genes and don't really have to work that hard to look great; you can eat all that common fast food and junk food, work out only occasionally, and still be OK. Those of us who are overweight are not necessarily pigging out.

    Hmm - 5'9 197 here - and I think it's a good idea.

I'd like to get down to a 34 waist from a comfortable 38.

But the measurements they are using in Japan are ridiculous - you'll never see a bunch of skinnier people running around in a first world nation. Some of the older men sport a small pot-belly, but that's about it.

They should Outlaw HIGH FRUTOSE SUGAR

How about taxing businesses that serve fatty foods
    Like we tax cigarettes?

I mean . . if those chocolate cakes cost 10$ a slice that would be a start
    right??

I can See 'fatties' huddles in corners passing cake to each other looking around to see who is watching . . .so they don't get busted

Drive the 'fatties' to the underground . . . .

this is hilarious to me .. . . if you thought the DRUG WAR was crazy . . .

I like how you come off as such an insecure jackass in your response to a relatively benign post. Maybe you're still mad about the picture thread being shut down?

Eh. How much white rice does the typical japanese family consume?

That's not to say fat alone makes you fat -- it's consuming too much fat that makes you fat. And consuming refined sugar and high fructose corn syrup definitely does the job too.

I mean, if more people would take the time to buy fresh food and actually cook for themselves (dumping the contents of a prepackaged frozen bag into a saute pan does not = cooking), I really don't think we'd be having such an obesity issue in this country. I'm also convinced that there's a correlation between the amount of red meat your typical american eats and the average weight of your typical american.
