    why are you yawning? sleepy?

i don't know about you, but i never thought i would live in a country where our government advocated for a policy of torture and the president's former legal council claimed he can sexually torture children, conducted warrentless wiretaps on american citizens, ignored the constitution, took away the right to habeas corpus, allowed people to be held indefinitely w/out charges or opportunity to appear before a court, had "free speech zones" at public events, lied us into an unnecessary war that has no hope of being resolved anytime soon, left our borders wide open and destroyed our sovereignty with the north american union and spent $2.3 billion of the american people's tax dollars on fake news and propaganda to name just a few things.

if this makes you yawn than just go back to bed, but things like this are a very threat to everything that this country stands for.

I was going to say Chuck Hagel, but it looks like he's going to run. Not because I would necessarily vote for him, given a good Democratic candidate (which I think we'll have) and given Hagel's views on some social issues, but because I respect the man. I think he would be both an honest President, and a good one in many respects. Certainly towering above the chump currently in the Oval Office.

I don't have a problem with torturing prisoners. They don't pick these names out of a hat.

My biggest concern for America is that we're moving away from the cutthroat values of productivity and growth, in favor of protecting the weak and oppressed. We didn't dump the tea into the harbor for a giant welfare state. Individualism is quietly leaving this country.

EDIT: I haven't read this yet, but I'm sure its good. http://www.amazon.com/Somebodys-Gotta-Say-Neal-Boortz/dp/0060878207

I would love for you to be sitting in a cell at Guantanamo, never having seen a lawyer, never having been charged with a crime, unable for years to contact family and friends... that would be bad enough. I wouldn't wish on you, or anyone else, shipment to another country that is willing to house torture facilities for this government, which has been going on. As for individualism leaving this country? Statements like yours would tend to support your argument, being straight from the rightwing talk-radio playbook, but I'm not that pessimistic. I think we have plenty of individualism, and those individuals are busy voting out of power this mad government, which has made an enormous increase in the cost and size of the Federal Government since 2000. Just an incredible increase, creating just the type of bloated government you appear to be fearful of. A bloated government just as eager to take away our personal freedoms as it is to piss on what this country has stood for all these years.

God, I'm glad I'm listening to some good music and my PC is finally working as it should. This crap is depressing.

I think his black friend Frank from Atlanta would make a hell of a running mate, what with his signature collecting skills.

It sounds like you would have been a happy citizen under the regime of Saddam Hussein. You share similar philosophies abouve govt., rule of law etc. with him.

I'm putting in another vote for Ron Paul. Although the Kinky/Little Jewford ticket is awfully attractive.

Productivity and growth aren't cutthroat values and neither do they conflict with a welfare state. Singapore has far less freedoms than we do and also a stronger social safety net yet out paces us in productivity and growth.

fine, just realize that you are an unamerican and immoral person who is no better than the "terrorists" you think bush is fighting. and you do know that the vast majority of people who have been tortured in the name of "freedom" have ended up being innocent, right?

people with attitudes like yours are the ones this country needs "saving" from.

I would nominate a truly great Texan, who I would love to see get more recognition...

    Jim Hightower.

Because most of the nation isn't adversely affected by the illegal immigrants.

I know it's easy to turn a blind eye to the illegal immigration issue when you live in a predominately white bread upper middle class area. But people really need to take a look at what's happening. The recent influx is not assimilating like generations of immigrants did in the past. Nor do they have any desire to.

It may sound ridiculous, but if this country keeps up on it's current course, the only place to find authentic American culture in 50 years will be Canada.

People who are scaredy cat of the Mexican invasion hurt my funny bone.

There are some great names on this list -- especially Captain America.

I know he's a has been, but I never got over Mario Cuomo's 92 flirtation. That guy gave hell of good speeches.

    Also, Phil Donahue.

Dead people that would make better presidents dead than most people would alive include Pat Moynihan, Paul Simon and Paul Wellstone.
