Crazy to think about but if it happens that's the best thing that could happen for the Astros...

Both were instrumental in the Rangers success the past few years, a shame it may end up like this

Nolan has been involved in all decisions regarding Rangers since he has been there.

Tom Hicks hired him and made him president of all baseball operations. Rangers have gone up and up ever since that decision.

Everyone expected Nolan to fire Daniels but it was Nolans decision to keep Daniels.

Everyone expected Nolan to fire Ron Washington but it was Nolans decision to keep him.

Nolan was knee deep on the Yu Darvish. Nolan was one of the main characters pushing to start Elvis Andrus at SS when most people thought he was not ready. Turned into a great move.

Nolan has been involved in all decisions and was instrumental in the Rangers new ownership which includes Nolan himself.

The reason Nolan is likely leaving the organization is because the increase in responsibly for John Daniels means a decrease in responsibilities for Nolan and he is not happy about that.

So absolutely NO he is most definitely not a figure head for the organization.

That sounds like a lot of work espcially with the season about to start and the schedules set (I think)

i really think the astros would bring in nolan given the opportunity. they 100% should.

pairing him with luhnow would be a deadly combination.

plus, it would be a GREAT pr move. we'd finally move past the stubborn mcclane front office, and show a willingness to let bygones be bygones.

if only they could bring hunsicker back...

man the astros have let too many good men leave...

Sleaze is an extremely poor word choice to use to describe Nolan Ryan. He may or may not be meddlesome or egotistic but he's not shown to be sleazy. He's no Roger Clemens in that regard.

It would be akin to returning to orange/blue in some respect. A huge PR move for a team reaching back to assure fans that, despite a league change, they're still the Houston Astros.

I would love for this to happen. Used to love going to Express (Astro) games. Not so much now.

I know Crane was in the bidding for the Rangers when Ryan's group won the ownership. I wonder if there's any bad blood there, I remember it getting pretty testy at the end...

Maybe I am not getting the main point here, but if Nolan is leaving basically because his input into the organization was to decrease, what can the Astros possibly offer where his input would be anywhere near what it was with the Rangers?

Luhnow is proven at the minor league side of things - developing players, trading for prospects, drafting the right guys, etc. But let's not pretend he's a a proven super-GM yet. He's never negotiated with free agents or dealt with arbitration or figured out what pieces are missing in a contending team. Ryan could easily add value and experience to this team and duplicate the working relationship he had with the Rangers GM who is also adept on the minor league side of things.

I think the key in bringing in him into the organization is for it not to undermine the work Lunhow and co. have done already in turning around this organization.

I am going to believe when we see some these prospects actually make it. We are on pace to lose a 105+ plus games for the third year in a row. We might be one of worst teams in the history of baseball.

I'm torn I'm not really a Nolan Ryan fan. I think he's pretty overrated. But it would tick off Ranger fans hmmmmmmmm

I love Nolan, but Luhnow appears to have almost unquestioned control of this roster. I'm fine with the results so far.

I'm not sure Nolan would have any more control here.

Wow, I'm kind of shocked at the lack of interest here. Nolan has proven to be outstanding as a baseball exec. Add to the fact that he is a legend from the Houston area and all the anger at the Astros orginization when they showed Nolan the door back in the late 80s and I would think people would be excited to have him back.

We have a new Team President. We have a new GM. He doesn't fit.

He was the most vocal supporter of us moving to the AL West. That's why I really don't care if he comes back.
