I wouldn't say inside information, and FWIW its third or fourth hand info that's probably partially true at best. Has nothing to do with drunk driving or the actual car crash itself. Just indicative of the behavior of someone who makes poor decisions and the kind of person who would stomp on a sleeping homeless man.

Terrance Jones showed the Rockets who he was back then, they should've believed them. That's all I got.

i dont get this mentality - yes the owner has done whatever he can of late to get under the tax so he doesnt have to pay extra and get some money back. He was over the one year where the Rockets were not going anywhere but he knew that would help him down the road.

Les doesnt always just keep that money in the bank he uses that money to buy draft picks in the draft a lot. He is paying off McHale (though that was probably his own fault extending him way too early) but that money gets put back into trying to help this team. Its Morey's philosophy of value in getting draft picks and star players who always are worth more than their contract value.

C'mon, just tell us what you heard 3rd-4th hand...

Was it - he didnt set an alarm a la Ryan Mallet, and was then speeding and driving recklessly to make the team plane? (just a guess for example)

I don't agree. Thornton is who he is. He's a shooter/scorer. Always has been. We got what we paid for here. Can't expect an established vet to become a different type of player after 5-6 seasons in the league.

Problem was (and is) Harden. Harden is inflexible. And he's the leader. He wanted help at guard. Morey got him help. Didn't work. Why? Thornton's fault? Lawson's fault? Hey, Lawson was Harden's pick. We traded for Lawson because Harden wanted him. I think we all know Thornton wasn't Harden's type of player. He shot the ball too quickly for Harden. But that's Thornton's game. And that's Harden's lack of elasticity. Locker room? No. (Not unless you put it on Harden.)

And I'll be surprised if we don't get below the tax threshold.

You did think (and I did too) that the Sixers would probably pick up Thornton. But they didn't. I don't know why you thought they might pick up Thornton but my speculation was that we would release Thornton and have the Sixers pick up Thornton as a favor for us releasing Jones and letting the Sixers pick him up. That would have got us below the tax line and gotten the Sixers a small asset in Jones' Birds rights.

    However, that didn't happen.

What did happen was Miami released Udrih in a strange move with Udrih agreeing to a buyout that drops Miami out of the luxury tax, saving them significant money and costing Udrih around $50,000. (Not going to look up exact figure.) And everybody's wondering what happened there.

Now.....there's a rumor circulating that Philly has claimed Udrih or is going to claim Udrih. If that actually happens, if Philly actually claims Udrih later today, and then turns around and releases him later today, where he is still eligible to be signed and be on a playoff roster........then I'm going to speculate a little.

I'm going to speculate if Philly picks Udrih and releases him that we are going to negotiate a buyout of Lawson's deal today and release him as well as releasing Jones. Philly will claim Jones. And I think there's a good possibility that Miami then signs Lawson after he clears waivers, using part of their MLE or minimum salary slot since they'll now have a couple million under the luxury tax limit to operate with if Philly picks up Udrih, that helps make up for the discount Lawson gives us. (And I think there's a possibility we sign Udrih to a minimum salary deal, that makes up the $50,000 he gave up to help Miami, while still keeping us under the luxury tax. Unless Philly pays his whole salary in lieu of the negotiated discount he was willing to give Miami.)

Our 6th man was a 5-team journeyman on a vet min contract that any team can claim off of waivers but no one does.

That's a good description of the season. So sad

really where? A guy who can't play defense and throws up shots would of helped against a team that put up 130 pts. I don't think so

Everyone in love with our trash as if they are our savior and then you realize no other team wants that trash. Typical. This is common stuff folks. You can pick up any scrub off the Dleague that can do what Thornton does, except those guys just need to be given green light to shoot every time they touch the ball like Thornton. 40%fg and 33% from 3 for 10ppg. FIRE MAURY!!!

I guess it has to do with how you feel about cutting Thornton. Do you feel like that was a good move from a basketball perspective? It feels like a financial decision that could have a detrimental impact on the basketball side.

Financially speaking, waiving Thornton in no way, shape or form helped the Rockets, since he was not claimed by another team. They are still on the hook for paying his entire salary (or at least the entire portion not paid by the league anyway), which will continue to count against the cap and the luxury tax.

I guess MT was just a throw in for the Detroit trade. They don't even want him for free now.

Yeah, I get that. The intention seemed to be financially driven though. It just didn't work out.

Clearly. They just wanted D-Mo's Bird rights.

I am not surprised and wasn't surprised when no one picked up Terrence Williams either.

CF loves role players and CF loves overrating role players.

Yeah, how's Terrence Williams workin' out for ya? Or Marcus Thornton? How about K.J. McDaniels? Yeah, keep on overrating those role players! Throw a fit when they don't get playing time or when they're traded or released! That Donatas Motiejunas meltdown was GLORIOUS!

It seems like the FO overrated him too if they were expecting to be bailed out by a waiver wire pickup.
