Oh, ok. I also agree with that. That's one of the reason's why I felt it would be a mistake for Microsoft to go without that feature, adding to the problems that go along with also not having a HD. Like I mentioned in another thread, the next Halo would probably take a while to develop, especially with the new hardware, and would definitly not launch on the next XBox, especially if it tried to come out in 2005. Really, I didn't see too many games that they could try to make on it at launch to help it out. This kind of happen with the PS2 as well since a few of the better 1st gen games didn't launch with it. However, with backwards compatibility, PS2 owners could stick to playing their normal PS1 games waiting for game like FF 10 and others.

I know Microsoft already did a poll asking people how badly they wanted this feature, and although the poll seemed to show that it wasn't important, I think it is. It would suck for an MLB fan if it came out in late '05 or early '06, and EA/VC decided not to bring its version of baseball games onto the new Xbox due to the amount of time and money it would take in basically creating a new game and not a port to bring to the major three consoles.

I don't think backwards compatibility is that big of a deal, I don't really use it on my PS2 very much all my old games are somewhere in the closet also I never sell my old consoles or get rid of them..

While I would admit that feature may not be used by many, I think it is a good thing to have. It would depend of several things though in order to become an excellent feature. For example, if the next Xbox launches with some pretty crappy titles, people won't play them no matter how good they look. I'd rather play an excellent sports or RPG title on this generation of consoles than play some type of a puzzle game, or some action game with horrible controls. Of course, a Halo-type launch title could make a difference.

Plus, while a lot of people who buy the next Xbox already have an Xbox, I would assume not all would. For example, I like a few of the Xbox games that have been mentioned such as Fable, KOTOR 2, Jade Empire, and Ninja Gaiden. However, should I ask for an Xbox for Christmas when in possibly a year's time there will be a console that is much more powerful? It would seem logical to wait, yet I still wouldn't be able to play these games without spending money on an Xbox, and why would I do that when there will be an Xbox successor in short time?

Backwards compatibility could help in situations like this. Even if things work out well and some great games launch with the system, it would be great to stick in a Madden/NFL 2k6, NBA Live/2k6, or some FPS game and play online with some guys on the same system.(that's probably one of the biggest differences from this generation of games as opposed to the last one) Also there could be some advantages to playing Xbox games on the next Xbox depending on how Mircrosoft deals with this.

I better start saving now I guess, because all of those things are gonna cost a pretty penny.

I'll probably just end up getting PS3 because I've always been a big fan of the Playstation family, but if I don't have enough money I'll just go with the cheapest (which will probably end up being Nintendo)

The hackability of the system has become one of XBOX's biggest selling points, unfortunately.

Their library is really beefing up, but early on - and still now - people mod their boxes like crazy.

And sorry, but a couple of you guys are way off base on the graphics thing. Their are huge strides they can still make, and things that will excite gamers. There are lots of things left that they will try and achieve.

You guys should check out that 'Unreal Engine 3.0 Demo' that floating around....absolutely mind boggling.

CGI quality...running on an ingame engine. For real this time, unlike what PS2 promised way back when. :D

Hell Yes. that Unreal Demo is mind boggling.

I can't wait for Doom III when it comes out and August - if you have a good computer, it is going to be the most visually stunning game to date.
