Personality wise, it's hard to hate Yao but talent wise, you can't say that. I personally think he's great in both categories but not the greatest.

A very insightful and substance-rich thread. Can I give one star? It's my first time, kinda wanted to for a long time.

Yao already proved he was the best center in the league over the second half.

Now we find out where that upside really is....top 5 all time...maybe?

All this Lebron for MVP thing is going to be forgotten this year as Yao turns into the beast he's been groomed to become.Big man always gets the nod here...as they produce titles.

Rockets over the Heat in 6 and Yao wins the MVP while averaging 27 and 13.

the other thread is about how no one should compare yao to other good centers because yao is better, I'm not really sure how to convey this better, but i'm sick of "Those" threads because of how useless it is to compare - not because of how great yao is or how bad other centers are, but because of the unabashedly biased some posters are. I understand this is a rockets forum, but it is also a basketball forum. I don't understand how criticisms of yao are dismissed as racist... anyways, i don't think anyone understood, or read my thread... :(
    that's me, sad.

That's waaaaay too strong. But if you don't call Yao the best in just the right way, you might be a YOH. ;)

If you think it's bad in this thread, go back 2-3 years ago. The YOF/YOH discussions were even more ridiculous.

Have to watch out about those Chinese posters ya know ;)

Anyway, I'm happy with what we have in Yao. He's certainly exceeded my expectations....and his injuries have been a lot less serious then those of others like Amare.

So Hopefully Yao can have a solid year of 20+ pts and 10+ rebs and who cares if he's the best or not. As long as we win - Mike James can be MVP for all I'm concerned.

Ok no more Shaq/Amare/Ben/Yao comparison. Let's compare Yao with Bradley and Rick Smith instead :D

Where's Eric Dampier? He's the best center of the Western Conference. Since Shaq is gone, obviously there only remains Dampier as MDE, right? Yao is nothing but a twig.

If he doesn't get injured, Yao is a lock for 20/10 and a deserved 1st team all-NBA if he maintains the attack mentality he showed late last season and in the preseason. But, like you say, the bottom line is wins and losses.
