Maybe we'll get lucky and JVG will get hired on somewhere and want to start filling his roster with his former players again. I'll gladly send Luther to him for a second round pick.
I'm still waiting after 12 playoff games of relativ futility vs. Utah for the Luther bust-out. I refuse to believe entirely in the logic that the long quick defenders of the Jazz are stifling his shot - I mean last year the Jazz were bringing Gordon Giricek and Derek Fisher at him - not exactly Michael Cooper or Joe Dumars. This year it's who, Korver? Granted Brewer is certainly very athletic but I don't think it could bother him that much - this is the same guy who went 44% from three point line last year. Did he hit 88% vs. the small slow defenders and 0% versus the tall fast ones? It was good to see him hustle like a man possessed last night, diving and scrapping - hopefully if he focuses on that his shot will start to fall because it's sorely needed.
Luther has disappointed me this series... I thought for sure he would play at least as well as he did in the regular season, but it's hard to defend him after the way he's been playing. Unless he steps up pretty big in these last two games, I can't say it would be a bad idea to trade him (but IF we do, hopefully we can still get a good piece in return... DO NOT dump him just for the sake of dumping him. I mean he only has one year left on his contract).
I don't feel comfortable when Luther has the ball in his hands. Brooks should have seen some clock last night, he can get in the lane with his quickness and cause some problems for the Jazz.
No, I didn't hate Hayes. Actually, I like his personality, but this is NBA, I don't think he is good enough.
He is filling a great role for the Rockets... He's deficient offensively, but he is one of the very best in the league defensively, has a high bball IQ, and plays with a ton of energy on the glass. For what we pay him, he is incredible. Keep Chuck out of this.
Luther is not that bad. What do you want from him? How much production do you need from him? He is just in to buy T-mac some rest that's it. He is not our 6th man or anything.
stop with all those turnovers and he's ok. He is a bigger threat from the perimeter than Brooks, plus he can defend better than Brooks. If he gets his shot going he is an asset in this series
Luther is pretty servicable. ..just not in this series. With Yao back, he can resort to his former ways, being a 3point threat. What a lot of people don't realize, is, RA puts him in bad situations. He basically puts him in as a backup Point. We all know, Luther is not no point guard. Hence the turnovers. Luther is better served as a spot up 3 point shooter. The problem is, we don't have anybody really in the post that demands a double team. Luther will be ok in the long run.
i think that luther's woes really just come from playing the jazz who are all bigger and much more physical than him. i havent looked at his reg season stats against the jazz but i am sure they arent that great either. his shot has been a bit off which hurts a lot, but i think if we advance or if he gets matched up against a different team he will play better. he has played good defense though in his defense in game 5. and he is trying to penetrate, he has done a lot of good unforunately he just hasnt scored at all. his defense on korver was much better than what bobby played. i wouldnt mind seeing a bobby/head combo to give rafer and tmac some rest. oh yeah and i so totally called on that 3-1 fast break that bobby shouldnt pass it to luther. i think he will have a decent game in utah if he plays and i felt bad for him he got hammered on his drive and no call, he had a ice pack on his head for the longest time
Where would the Rockets be last year without him? Again, with a healthy Yao, Luther is the Rockets best 3point shooter, behind now, Novak. Luther gets into trouble when asked to handle the ball.
Didn't he have a pretty good Game 5 last year? I remember he knocked some timely threes down to help us secure the win and I thought the same thing you just wrote. But then he disappeared again. Luther just sucks. He may be one of the worst defensive players in the league and in the playoffs he turns into one of the worst offensive players in the league. A complete package of suckitude. Don't forget Alston and Shane. I bet he would do everything to acquire Ryan Bowen too. PG - Alston/Kidd SG - Terry/Luther SF - Battier/Bowen/Jo.Howard PF - Ju.Howard/Hayes/Bass C - Dampier IR - dirk - too much depth at his position That's because your sig is wrong.
The problem is he is giving us NEGATIVE production. He has done anything positive or even neutral in 2 series.
He actually hit at least one big three in game 7 in the 4th, I believe. Not sure if he had any other FGs that game, though. Anyways, Luther is actually an excellent defender considering how undersized he is... it's just that he's stuck on bigger, stronger 2s too often.
Yeah I think we were all disappointed with that decision, but Luther was hammered a couple of times hard on his way to the hole, at least he didn't avoid contact.
