Joe thinks he can still ISO like he was 28. I'd rather have Green chunking up a three then Joe dribbling inside for a midrange shot and losing the ball
Nope. JJ should play now and i want to see more postup plays from him. Now is the time, instead of throwing JJ in during the playoffs.
For those who don't think that playing Joe is a big deal... I challenge you to go back through each possession of the last two games (offensively and defensively) and keep your eye on Joe the entire time. You'll find that 80% of the possessions he is a non-factor or negative contributor, either due to slow rotations, bad one-on-one defense, slow closeouts, closeouts that allow the dribbler to get by, passing up open 3s, missing shots in the lane, passes that don't allow the receiver to get an immediate shot, low energy, no offensive rebound presence, weak defensive rebounding, lack of blocking out his man, etc. I would estimate that any replacement that we put in would likely be closer to 30-40% of these things. I cannot WAIT until Ryno comes back, but between Ryno and Green, there's no excuse why Joe Johnson should get any more than 4 minutes a game.
Green must be doing something horrible in practice to have JJ play over him. In games he's far more competent at moving his feet on switches and hits way more "f*ck you" threes than Joe.
I'm wondering if this couldn't become a rift between Pringles and Elvis? One guy obviously going with heart and loyalty with Joe and the other probably going borderline demented whispering stats to himself and maniacally laughing. I get some guys abhor Greens below average bball IQ and his penchant for getting lost on defensive assignments, but he is head and shoulders a better athlete than Joe Johnson, and sometimes all that is needed is that spark of energy and ability to keep up with opposition. Joe Johnsons days in the NBA are over.
The people asking for JJ to play now ..."to get warmed up for the playoffs" ... Do you guys really think he's gonna be good ?? There's no way he's going to be better than Ryan , PJ , Luc , or Trevor . I don't think it's worth it to try to get him comfortable . I'd rather play green , who is already accustomed to our system
Springer shouldn't bat leadoff. I'll trust the guy who has coached Houston to the best record in the NBA and just lost for the first time in 36 days.
Yes. I think it’s worth it. He can be the third iso and probably the only postup option. And he is a good passer out of both of those options.
So MDA should go back to a 7-man rotation or play who YOU want played? I trust Joe Johnson in the playoffs more than Green. If playing him now means getting him ready for the playoffs later than let Joe get his bumps out the way now.
Back to your question, online petitions have proven to be incredibly effective in the past. Godspeed!
“Hey I know you are the coach of the team with the best record in basketball and are about to shatter the franchise win record but as a fan I think I know better than you so please stop playing Joe Johnson 15 minutes. Thanks in advance!” - Fan on message board
I actually think that MDA knows that Joe is not better for the team than Green right now. He's trying to get Joe in shape and used to the team so that he can be in the playoff rotation. He's loyal to Joe and has history with him, which leads him to believe that Joe can return to form. I want to know that coach will make the right decision when the time comes, and aside from sparingly using JJ in the post for spot minutes, the right decision is for Joe to be on the bench. What MDA has shown so far is that he's willing to sacrifice the team's performance now to try to make Joe a contributor in the playoffs. I don't see that happening, and when we lose close games where Joe holds us back, it pisses me off. We're trying to hold onto the #1 seed and that's more important to me than anything Joe will bring to the table in the playoffs. I would love for Joe to play well and I root for him to get better, but if we lose a close game and don't have our best team on the court, I have a right to be mad and will be vocal about it.
We lost this game in the first quarter. We came out with less urgency unlike the raptors. It’s a good game to lose. Now we can regroup and have another streak.
