The refs were consistent. They called weak fouls out on the perimeter and ignored the contact in the paint. Doesn't make sense to me that they would call the game that way but it is what it is. Ron Artest needs to look himself in the mirror. He was one of the main culprits in both Yao's and Battier's comments.

Thanks for the audio and the re-cap.

Hope the "plan" goes through against Portland.

There is no solution to fronting. I would put in Deke when Yao can't do anything. He is old as dirt, but at least he can rebound, play defense and bring some size along with an attitude for at least a few minutes if nothing else.

 Same stuff we hear after every game pretty much.

    "Yao didn't get the ball."

    "We couldn't beat the front."

the solution is swing to the weak side and slash, set yao up on weak side, and set a screen when he moves into position, or moving yao out and postin ron up

I think the pick and pop was also working well with Yao. He knocked down 2 out of 3. I'll take that. Yao should be practicing that midrange shot 500 times a day.

If he's not getting the ball in the post, he can still be effective this way.

I don't get why Brooks/Lowry, when are they are trying to pass into a fronted Yao, don't just drive into the lane, beating their man, while Yao's man can't help (because he is still fronting Yao when the PG drives in.)

It seems like it would be an effective way to slowly wean Yao's defender on ensuing posessions.

i dont think ron's comments were too bad, shouldn't cause any problem....

as for the refs, i mentioned in the game thread how the refs started missing calls on both sides in the 3rd quarter, then would make "make up" calls to cover it up, so although they were doing it for both teams, it eventually screws one of the teams more because they're not calling it straight...but i wouldnt blame the refs this time around..

as for fronting, i know what the problem is. Opposing teams FEEL like they can intercept a lob pass. that's it. that's the key. I was watching some old tapes of games when dream was here, i know it's a long time, different style, diff players, etc., but i noticed when dream was fronted they would lob it to him, and dream would reach up to get it, but it wasnt like he was jumping up to the sky to retrieve it and leaving the defender on the ground, the defender wasnt even trying to get it! Why? Out of habit. the defender risks fouling if they go for it, so when they know a post player will always go for it, they limit when they gamble. Dream never really just stood there and waited for the ball, but Yao doesn't always go and get it, he stays grounded and waits for it, perfect opportunity every time for the defender to get it or a weak side defender to swoop in to get it. Yao needs to jump, that's it, leave the floor big guy, and get it. Refs will most of the time give the advantage to the offensive player in that situation, and assume any contact is initiated by the defender.

When they do drive in, they usually get fouled, but they only get the calls at home because neither of our PGs are superstars. It disgusts me how much home court advantage effects the way the game is officiated. It really is something I can't stand about the NBA. When teams front yao they're literally pulling his arm to get in front of him, and the second Yao tries to use his arms to get position, he's called for an offensive foul. This happened twice tonight. In Houston, i guarantee that neither of those calls would have been made. I really believe that.

I mean just look at the numbers. Home court advantage this season was literally an 8 point advantage for all teams. Good teams and bad teams. Its clearly almost gotten to the point where its deciding games.

    Dont whine about the refereeing.

Referees will give favor calls to home team that's we are fight for home court. Now that the Rockets lost the home court you have to expect more calls against this team. Who to blame? The rockets only have themself to blame!

Nice recap... how these three Wafer/Brooks/Lawry hold up to playoff pressure will be key. If they all become Head clones, then we r screwed.

Well, refs did affect the game a lot in 3rd quarter. Yao was held and grabbed, but he couldn't fight back to hold his ground. 4 fouls in 3rd quarter, 2 offensive.
Refs just tried to keep the game close, then decide in 4th quarter. That changed the momentum a lot.
