The key difference is that the others admitted their use. They all got immunity for providing honest testimony - Bonds is the one they believe lied during it.

I think this delay is primarily to get the other guy to testify. He was jailed a few weeks ago, but knowing that the grandy jury would expire now meant he could just wait it out. Now, they are going to call him to testify immediately, and if he refuses, they get to put him in jail for a year or so, I believe. That might provide a better incentive to testify.

And that's going to piss some people off.

I don't care about a conviction, punishment etc. I don't hate bonds. I hate his fanboys that can't accept reality. What bugs me is people's love affair with this guy to the point where they cay be in such denial about his actions. I don't really care if he used steroids. But let's be real, he did (they all did) and he lied about it.

I have no love affair with Bonds. I just dont think this issue is important enough to validate the use of my tax dollars. There are more important things for our elected officials to spend their time, energy AND MY $$$ on.

And its funny, I never was a bonds fan, I was more a fan of those oakland a's teams that we know now were roided up. but the out of proportion backlash that the guy gets is what makes me support him. i'm tired of hearing about it, like the guy is america's most wanted criminal.

especially when they've had 3 years to try already. i mean punishing perjury is cool and all, but after 3 years stop wasting my money. you ****ing lost, move on.

and as roger cossack was saying, how reliable will a grand jury feel is the testimony of a guy who is being threatened with a year in jail?

and if he's just in some minimum security prison and bonds will reward him enough, another year might be worth it.

Agreed there are much more pressing issues than Bonds. There acting like he Killed someone if they had proof that he lied they should be convicted but from the leaked testimony he stated that he used clear & cream so how did he lie. SOMEBODY please tell me so i can get a better understanding of why.

I'm not a huge fan as much as I am just stating the obvious.

If the government thinks he broke the law and lied about it in such a high profile case, they are going to go after him. I don't know why that's a surprise to people.

You think? Is evidence really all that important in obtaining an indictment. Gee, let me consult my 'Law 101' textbook...hey, whaddya know! It says you need evidence to prosecute someone for a crime. Glad we got THAT out of the way.

Seriously, I hate Bonds as much as the next guy. He's an a$$ of the highest order. He's not as bad as Ty Cobb was, but he's pretty close. Having said that, I still think this witch hunt is ridiculous. The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that if he wasn't within reach of the record, I seriously doubt this would have happened. Or if he was a nice guy and media-friendly, MLB would flex it's muscle and have the case quietly put aside. But because he's a jerk, and because he's within reach of the record, he's being hung out to dry.

Pete Rose got sent to prison for exactly that. Several other old-timers have been investigated by the IRS & had to pay up bigtime. There was also the IRS investigation of a bunch of umpires a few years ago when they were selling their 1st class airfare , flying coach & pocketing the difference (iirc). Not exactly the first time the IRS has investigated baseball shennanigans.
