it's an informal saying man, people say it when they know they've said something that could be taken out of context and sound really gay...they're trying to be one step further than the "that's what she said"
I use it around certain friends but I use it as a joke. I've seen/heard people take the "no homo" movement too seriously...it's basically another version of the "that's what she said" game. Actually, I usually use "Pause" rather than "no homo" because I have gay friends...no homo.
Here's a good video that explain's the no homo movement <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/YJnlPP7jm5s?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/YJnlPP7jm5s?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>

hmmm....I don't really use the phrase and I definitely get that it's juvenile and stupid but how is this offensive to gay people? There is definitely implied homophobia because anyone saying this with any seriousness is clearly afraid someone will suspect they are homosexual but I don't see the explicit offensiveness to it.
it's the same reason why in schools we tell our school children not to use the phrase "that's gay." usually this phrase is used to say something is lame, etc... If you were indeed a homo, why would that matter? it clearly seems that hip hop culture has adopted this phrase and like the video says, has a real problem with "seeming" or "sounding" gay.
Smoothie tries to have a sensible thread.. But it still turns into a thread about no homo jokes.. lol
